Chief Financial Officer/Director of Finance
Academy for Precision Learning (APL) is a school with a deep mission to serve, support, grow and enhance the lives of children on the autism spectrum and their peers in a nurturing, academically rigorous environment that helps learners thrive and grow.
The CFO is a key leader at our school and built-in behavioral health clinic of 135 teachers/clinicians. We are looking for an empathetic, strategic human who has sound judgment, political acumen, and the communication skills necessary to translate the school's financial picture for clear understanding by a broader audience. This team member will guide operations and oversee a team of emerging and veteran professionals in the business office.
This position reports directly to and will work in day-to-day collaboration with our Executive Director. Subject matter expertise is central to the work, and the ideal CFO will have a sense of proportion in crafting solutions to problems, a consistent focus on sustainability, and an understanding of independent school culture and nonprofit business operations. The CFO is the leader of our Business Office and oversees the Human Resources Director, our bookkeeper, and our IT Specialist.
Who you are:
* An experienced Finance professional with 10+ years in progressive financial roles, preferably with some experience in non-profits, QuickBooks, and medical billing operations.
* A trustworthy steward of agency resources.
* A lead in the organization's completion of annual audits and tax filings.
* An active participant in the NWAIS certification process
* A licensed CPA, preferred.
* Experienced in some or all these worlds - education, nonprofits, and/or medical service delivery

* Direct fiscal operations and policies, ability to accurately document and report all fiscal transactions, including payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
* Experience with forecasting and setting budgets
o Creating organizational budgets and financial modeling processes and managing department budgets
* Lead financial management decision-making processes and monitor fiscal health of the organization, in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors
* Maintain quality financial policies and practices
* Staying abreast of changes in the field of independent school management
* Advanced ability to work with, analyze, and present data
* Project management, experience manage complex system implementations
* Experience and knowledge designing and implementing internal controls and accounting guidelines
In the last month you would have:
* Facilitated processes and practices agency-wide that support APL's efficiency and effectiveness:
* Supported the Clinic Operations Director in managing compliance with clinical requirements and implementation of clinical policies and quality assurance as required by state licensing regulations
* Worked with Board Finance Committee to communicate financial information
* Provided support over insurance billing processes, consistent with existing processes
* Collaboratively set organizational direction and strategy and problem solve big picture organizational questions with other members of the Leadership Team
* Mobility sufficient to navigate the two APL campuses and any off-campus venues
* Communicated clearly and effectively with colleagues, families, vendors and community partners, and the public
* Approved day-to-day organizational fiscal operations including accounts payable, tuition billing for families (ACH's), payroll, and insurance invoicing
* Led the filing of our state and federal taxes both quarterly and annually
* Worked independently, managed multiple projects within a dynamic work environment, and delegated tasks strategically
* Mentored direct reports, students, and other staff with shared interests, living our shared core values in your role
Job Qualifications:
* Fingerprint clearance through OSPI
* Clean background check through Washington State Patrol and GoodHire
* Experience working with a large staff (100+), school or clinic experience preferred
* Passion for APL's mission of inclusion-based learning
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate on a multi-disciplinary team
