Emergency Veterinarian
Bay Area Pet Hospital is a privately owned 24/7 emergency hospital in Traverse City, Michigan. We are the only hospital in northern Michigan with 24 hour care and routinely have 5-10 inpatients in our slower months (summer caseload may be twice this) in addition to outpatient ER patients.
Traverse City is located on Grand Traverse Bay in the northern aspect of Michigan's lower peninsula. It is a gorgeous area with scenic views in all seasons. We are considered a vacation town of the mid-west though our population has grown rapidly since the pandemic (those working from home are choosing to move to our beautiful area!). It is home to dozens of beaches, lakes, rivers, hiking trails and both downhill and Nordic skiing. It is a huge foodie town and boasts dozens of microbreweries and wineries, many of which can be reached by water via the "Paddle for Pints" route. In the winter, there are snowshoe paths to the restaurants and vineyards on Old Mission Peninsula.
While the area is amazing, what separates our hospital apart is our tight-knit, amazing staff. We treat our support staff as the valued team members they are and in return, we have a team that loves what they do.
We are currently scheduling a morning, mid shift, and overnight doctor and are looking to add an evening swing shift position. Full time is considered 32 hours/week. This shift could be schedule as 6 eleven hour shifts, 7 ten hour shifts or 8 eight hour shifts per two week pay period. The applicant should be comfortable with common urgent and emergent conditions and confident in their diagnostic recommendations. This position will always have the benefit of a second doctor on the floor to run a case by or review radiographs. Use of DVMStat for STAT case review by a criticalist is available and encouraged for cases that would benefit from referral but are not stable for transport. Proficiency in emergency surgery is not required (we have some great mentors) but comfort with minor procedures (lacerations and bite wounds) is needed. Surgery loving doctors will have the opportunity to cut and we see it all. Salary will be commensurate with experience and proficiency in ER and ICC medicine.
Benefits of working with us include a flexible schedule, colleagues that help each other both with cases and with shift swaps, and an outstandingly knowledgeable and technically skilled support staff that makes coming to work fun. We also offer a sign on bonus, competitive salary (starting at $145k for new graduates-$180k for ER veterans with surgical experience), a matching 401-k up to 3%, CE allowance of $2,000k/yr (rolls over up to $4,000/yr) and CE PTO, tuition reimbursement, and encourage the use of vacation time PTO (accrues with seniority beginning at 2 weeks your first year). 100% employer paid health, vision and dental insurance, life insurance, VIN membership, state licensing, professional liability and DEA license dues.
Requirements for this position include a knowledge and passion for emergency and critical care medicine, the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with our clients, and the ability to delegate tasks to your support staff.
Requirements:
DVM degree and a license to practice in Michigan
At least 1 year experience in an emergency hospital or rotation small animal internship is preferred. ER passionate new graduates will be considered.
