Development Manager
Overview
California Association of Food Banks (CAFB) is an Oakland-based 501 (c) 3 with a mission to end hunger in California. We represent the interests of our 41 member food banks throughout the state and engage in policy advocacy to address the root causes of hunger and work towards a hunger-free future.
In rising to the historic hunger crisis in our state, with food insecurity affecting 8-10 million through the pandemic and remaining critically high, CAFB has grown, and with it, so has our development program. Our grants portfolio has nearly doubled and we are implementing new strategies to retain a circle of individual donors.
We are seeking a development manager to work in close partnership with the Director of Development to support the implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy to sustainably maintain our revenue goals of more than $2.2 million annually for CAFB's budget. In addition to seeking direct funding for our programs, we also conduct fundraising for our members through our Rapid Response Fund, statewide cause marketing partnerships, and targeted grants for special initiatives, such as our farmworker initiative. (We encourage you to read our Impact Report and to further explore our website to get a feel for our programmatic and overall work).
This is a prime opportunity for an ambitious development professional to take their well-rounded skillset to the next level in service of a deeply inspiring and timely mission. Our ideal candidate will bring experience with end-to-end grants writing and management, as well as knowledge of the systems, processes, and skillsets suited to individual donor stewardship. Because CAFB is not a direct service provider, but represents members who are, our ideal candidate will bring an understanding of the fundraising challenges that we can face in this space, as well as an understanding of and hunger for learning more about advocacy fundraising. Knowledge of safety net programs, particularly food insecurity and other social determinants of health, is a plus, but even more important is enthusiasm for ongoing learning and rapid uptake of information in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
