Auxiliary Technology Services Manager

The Information Services division is made up of four major departments—Enterprise Applications, Networks and Operations, Service Delivery and Security Services—and serves as the University’s centralized IT organization; responsible for providing technology services for the entire institution, including eight centers and instructional sites across the State of Washington. As such, it sets and defines the operating model, and provides strategic leadership, direction and management of the institution's information technology resources. The division also provides information security oversight and operates the institution’s core technology infrastructure, such as the enterprise network, institutional datacenter, and technology innovation centers. Job Summary
The Manager of Auxiliary Technology Services creates and sustains Information Services in support of various auxiliary departments including, but not limited to: Housing, Dining, Conference Center and the Wildcat Shop. This position coordinates and directs the efforts of the Auxiliary Technology Services staff to ensure client needs are identified and met. The role of this position is to understand and act upon strategic goals, concepts, and projects, serving as a point of contact and increasing the visibility and effectiveness of Information Services throughout the university community.
Job Duties
Auxiliary Systems Leadership and Supervisor Duties
- Provide oversight, vision and guidance for auxiliary systems in support of university strategies; participate in IS governance activities with key clients and technology users to facilitate business requirements and communicate needs.
- Serve as a key member of the IS team to translate and advocate for client needs, outreach, and provide excellence in service delivery.
- Assist in development and maintenance of annual budgets and management of expenses.
- Identify upcoming computing requirements and needs and prepare funding requests/proposals. Manage operating budgets and expenses. Participate in RFP processes related to IS improvements.
- Actively engages in recruitment and hiring new employees;
- Clearly defines performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring. Conducts formal performance evaluations;
- Ensures employees have necessary resources;
- Oversees and directs the work of staff; serves as mentor, coach and leader, and resolves complaints or issues;
- Promotes professional development opportunities;
- Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement;
- Communicates information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community;
- Takes corrective action in a timely manner;

Technology Analyst
- Work closely with Auxiliary Services units (including Dining, Housing and other self-funded groups) to develop, implement and support cost effective technological solutions for business problems.
- Coordinate technology initiatives and support with the central IS department.
- Develop policies and procedures surrounding administrative system and the respective data.
- Collaborate and assist Security Services with projects; participate in task groups as needed.
- Establish and maintain relationships with vendors to foster outreach and collaboration. Identify opportunities for development of solutions to aid and support business needs by leveraging implemented technologies.
- Remain abreast of current and emerging industry trends and best practices; identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and make recommendations for improvements.
- Champion creative use of technology to enhance and improve end user experience and support various platforms and departments; partner with users at all levels to identify and deliver technology solutions.
Provide a high level of customer service and satisfaction through a continually improving service delivery model. - Participate in review of application development for clients including all aspects relating to unit testing, parallel testing, implementation and documentation.
Project Management / Coordination
- Identify and facilitate the development of project objectives, milestones, schedule and overall plan.
- Facilitate the development of project scope with stakeholders.
- Ensure projects are accomplished in accordance with established specifications and funding requirements.
Create and maintain project documentation and provide project status updates. - Address project issues and risk scenarios; provide recommended solutions.
- Develop and deliver communications, training materials and/or presentations.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of work experience in Information Technology; at least 3 years must be in a supervisory role.
- Information technology experience or equivalent training and education, such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, or network infrastructure equipment.
- Experience directing projects, providing customer or technical support in information technology; or administering or supervising staff in information technology analysis, system maintenance, and troubleshooting/problem resolution.
- OR any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the ability to accomplish the essential functions of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Management Information Science or other related field.
- Experience with application development and scripting using HTML, PHP, ColdFusion, JavaScript or other web-based technologies.
- Experience with usage, administration and integration with cloud technologies.
- Experience supporting revenue-generating business functions within a complex matrixed environment.
- Project management experience.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: Dependent upon qualifications and experience
Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
