Information Services Division
The Information Services division is made up of four major departments—Enterprise Applications, Networks and Operations, Service Delivery and Security Services—and serves as the University’s centralized IT organization; responsible for providing technology services for the entire institution, including eight centers and instructional sites across the State of Washington. As such, it sets and defines the operating model, and provides strategic leadership, direction and management of the institution's information technology resources. The division also provides information security oversight and operates the institution’s core technology infrastructure, such as the enterprise network, institutional datacenter, and technology innovation centers. Job Summary
Oversees and provides supervision and technical leadership as a working manager for the Network Infrastructure Services team with responsibility for enterprise network technologies including communication links, routing, switching, load balancers, wireless network management systems, security, traffic analysis, telephony, troubleshooting and related infrastructure. Acts as technical resource for Networks & Operations projects or tasks touching multiple functional and technical areas. Works with technical and non-technical staff on a regular basis and is required to communicate in a clear and concise manner. Makes decisions and recommendations regarding enterprise network technologies. Manages upgrades, projects and technology R&D efforts with a focus on operational stability, timeliness, attention to detail and customer focus.
Job Duties
Leadership and Management Duties: Actively engages in recruitment and hiring new employees;

- Review on a continual basis the departmental procedures, staffing, and equipment for maximum efficiency while controlling costs.
Network Architecture & Engineering
- Design, configure, monitor and optimize local and wide area networks for optimal performance, maximum availability, minimal maintenance, and reasonable costs.
- Design, configure, maintain and manage network security features for local and wide area networks. Configure, monitor and maintain firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention and related systems to insure network and systems integrity. Add and delete users as required on network servers and applications.
- Implement and maintain routers, switches, remote access servers, load balancers, DNS/DHCP servers, security, firewalls, applications and device servers and Internet and Intranet devices and connections.
- Monitor and maintain network stability, collect and analyze network and memory utilization and install and test software upgrades.
- Work with Engineers to integrate voice, data, and video applications on the local and wide area networks. Perform basic telephone maintenance as required.
- Coordinate third-party maintenance for network hardware, software, and telecommunications services.
Analyze, recommend, and evaluate new hardware, software, and communications products for network compatibility and applicability. - Look for ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
- Develop, maintain, and update a library of technical documentation.
- Stay abreast of emerging information technologies and remain highly technically competent. Assess industry direction and analyze new capabilities that may be applied to the university.
- Provide consultation and assistance to Enterprise Operations staff with systems design, implementations, optimizations, troubleshooting, problem solving, and documentation as required.
- Annually complete a minimum of 40 hours of training or education on current or emerging technology through trade magazines, manuals, seminars, and courses.
Project Management / Coordination
- Identify and facilitate the development of project objectives, milestones, schedule and overall plan.
- Facilitate the development of project scope with stakeholders.
- Ensure projects are accomplished in accordance with established specifications and funding requirements.
Create and maintain project documentation and provide project status updates. - Address project issues and risk scenarios; provide recommended solutions.
- Develop and deliver communications, training materials and/or presentations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- BA/BS from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in business operations/management information systems, computer science, or related field with a minimum of seven (7) years of work experience in an infrastructure and networking environment and at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Extensive experience required in supervising teams and with responsibility for completing complex deployment projects within budget and on specific timelines.
- Proven project management experience.
- Experience architecting, installing, configuring, and troubleshooting local and wide area networks for enterprise environments.
- Works independently on tasks and monitors progress against defined parameters.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
- Ability to productively conduct group presentations and meetings.
- OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Higher Education highly desired.
- Experience with Avaya VoIP technology highly desired.
- Experience with perimeter security, virtual private networks, and intrusion protection for enterprise systems desired.
- Cisco, Oracle, Unix-like operating systems, DHCP, DNS, LDAP, NTP, SQL, HTML, or Java - experience highly desired.
- Experience with Palo Alto or other NGFW technology highly desired.
- Experience with BGP and OSPF routing protocols desired.
- Experience integrating on premise infrastructure with cloud service technologies (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, etc.) and providers.
- Financial planning and budgeting experience.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: Dependent upon qualifications and experience
Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
