Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
Are you an enthusiastic and talented recent law school graduate looking for an exciting entry-level position that will allow you to be in court on a regular basis? If so, consider applying to be the next Assistant City Attorney for the City of Bellevue. The ideal candidate for this position will have a passion for criminal law as well as an interest in handling civil matters, a self-starter mentality, and the ability to handle a fast-paced environment with limited oversight.
This position will be responsible for the prosecution of all civil infractions for the City, as well as representing the City at administrative civil forfeiture proceedings, handling various other civil matters, and assisting in the prosecution of misdemeanor criminal charges. It requires frequent court appearances in Bellevue District Court. Strong verbal and written communication skills, a high level of organization, and superior interpersonal abilities are a must. The successful candidate will be able to work professionally and cooperatively with other members of the City Attorney's Office, other City departments, including the Bellevue Police Department, judges, and the defense bar. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated self-awareness and cultural competence.
Education & Credentials:
Graduation from an ABA accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree.
Must be currently licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Washington. (May consider applicants who have taken the Washington State Bar examination and are currently waiting for results.)
Legal & Technical Qualifications:
Possess or acquire knowledge of laws pertaining to misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors and traffic infractions. Knowledge of courtroom procedures and court rules is also required.
Ability to practice law in a trial environment before district court judges and administrative law judges.
Ability to prepare and analyze comprehensive legal documents.
Possess proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to conduct legal research using Westlaw and to analyze both criminal and civil legal issues. Familiarity with electronic case management systems.
