Recruitment Description:
The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy in Community Development for a Building Inspector I.
This position is responsible for carefully reviewing application materials, conducting field inspections, and performing plan review to ensure compliance with adopted building codes, fire codes, and other development regulations. An essential part of the job is to work positively, and in a solution-oriented manner with customers, their design/engineering professionals, other members of the public, and co-workers. Additional tasks may include investigating complaints, responding to customer inquiries, and assisting with life/safety inspections and damage investigations.
Salary: $4,584 - $6,112/month (2022 wages) – FLSA Exempt plus excellent benefits
Qualifications:
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalency;
- Formal training/education and/or at least two (2) years of experience in related field such as architecture, construction management, building construction technician.
- Frontline customer service experience.
MOST COMPETITIVE CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS:
- Associates degree in building inspection, or a related field, or a similar certification.
- Experience in building construction and/or governmental construction inspection.
- ICC certification in building inspection, plans examination, or similar ICC certification.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to climb and/or crawl into tight and confined spaces, walk on steep and uneven terrain, kneel, bend and move and/or transport up to 50 lbs.
- Must complete International Code Council Building Inspector Certification within first 12 months.
- Other licenses, certifications, and requirements may become necessary to meet the business needs of the department.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- ICC Building Inspector Certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
- Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license by date of hire and maintain an insurable driving record.
