Summary
City Of Kirkland 2019 Aquatics Program Open Positions:
Head Swim Team Coaches Salary: $15.78 - $20.76 per hour
Administers the day to day aspects of the Swim/Dive Team program and provides effective/skillful supervision and leadership to the assistant coaches.
Assistant Swim Team Coaches Salary: $12.90- $16.97 per hour
Duties include customer service, planning and directing daily practice, organization of season competition and assistance with administrative duties as assigned.
Senior Lifeguards Salary: $14.00-$17.71 per hour
To provide effective knowledge and skillful lifeguarding and aquatic program support at City public beaches and/or pool and act as a replacement for the Aquatic Program Supervisor in his or her absence.
Water Safety Instructors Salary: $12.37- $16.27 per hour
Water Safety Instructors provide instruction to students registered in the summer community Learn to Swim Program.
Lifeguards Salary: $13.00- $16.45
Lifeguards provide effective knowledge and skillful lifeguarding at City public beaches and/or pool.
Swim Instructors Salary: $12.00- $15.18
Swim Instructors provide swim instruction to lower level students in the summer community Learn to Swim Program.
Hours of Work
Employee works a flexible schedule which may include early morning, daytime, evening hours, and weekends June-September. Work schedule and need may fluctuate during periods of low attendance and poor weather days.
Based on the applicants experience and certification, they may be considered for one or more positions.

Important Dates: Hiring Orientation Dates- Wednesday, May 15th at 2pm or Saturday, May 19th at 9am and Pre-Season Staff Training Saturday, June 1st 8am-4pm.
Minimum Qualifications (all positions)
- Must possess current first aid and CPR FPR, PDT, AED, and 02 certifications. Date of certifications must be within the last 4 years. If these certifications are not current on or before application date, a challenge will be given during the first lifeguard in-service day to recertify. Please note, in order for the City to recertify the applicable certifications, they must have been obtained or renewed within the past 4 years.
- Must be able to pass the aquatics swim test and perform the skills on the Skills Checklist (click on checklist link for criteria).
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check.
Additional Minimum Qualifications per position:
Head Swim Team Coaches: A current ARC Waster Safety Instructor certification is required on or before the first day of employment. Min 600 hours (2 full summer seasons) experience equivalent to the position of Assistant Coach and minimum 18 years of age.
Assistant Swim Team Coaches: A current ARC Waster Safety Instructor certification is required on or before the first day of employment. Min 300 hours (1 full summer season) experience teaching Learn to Swim Lessons. Min 2 years of competitive Swim/Dive Team experience and minimum 16 years of age.
Senior Lifeguards: A current ARC Lifeguarding certification is required on or before the first day of employment. Minimum 600 hours (2 full summer seasons) of lifeguarding and experience. Knowledge of basic pool chemistry. Minimum 18 years of age.
Water Safety Instructors (WSI): A current ARC Waster Safety Instructor certification is required on or before the first day of employment. Must be 16 years of age.
Lifeguards: A current ARC Lifeguarding certification is required on or before the first day of employment. Must be 15 years of age.
Swim Instructors: Successful completion of the Peter Kirk Learn to Swim Instructor Course. Minimum 16 years of age.
Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions during the summer months at city-owned pool and beaches. Employee works a flexible schedule which may include evening hours and weekends. On occasion, must be able to provide own transportation. Work schedule and need may fluctuate during periods of low attendance and poor weather days.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office machines and pool maintenance equipment, seeing to read and analyze chemical tests, sitting or standing for extended periods of time, kneeling or crouching and bending at the waist to conduct tests, lift patrons and/or facility materials of 50 lbs. (With assistance if weight is greater.)
