Summary
Responsible for inspecting new commercial, multifamily, and single-family dwellings and remodel work to existing structures to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and regulations related to building construction, electrical systems, mechanical systems, plumbing systems, state energy requirements, ventilation and indoor air quality, local zoning requirements, and job site erosion control. Inspects buildings and structures to ensure the minimum standards for structural integrity, fire, life, and safety. Answers questions and provides technical advice related to building and structure code compliance and interpretation. Investigates and responds to complaints regarding code compliance, informing public and contractors regarding violations and corrective actions needed. Maintains accurate records and proper documentation of inspections.
Hours of Work
Hours vary during core business hours typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30p.m., Monday - Friday. Assignments, when made, vary from 4 hours, to days, weeks, and sometimes, months. Time between assignments can vary by the same. Assignments are of a limited duration and are not a consistent source of income.
Minimum Qualifications- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Must have good oral and written communication skills
- Must have and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License
- Must be a certified commercial (EL01) journey level electrician with Washington State Department of Labor and Industries with four years of journey level experience.
International Code Council (ICC) Commercial or Residential Building Inspector Certification.
Working Conditions & Physical ActivitiesThe position entails driving to or being at construction sites a majority of the time. Potential hazards at construction sites might include falling objects, loose footing, and construction equipment. The position may require exposure to inclement weather and adverse conditions. Physical requirements include: Lifting, bending, and climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding.
