Seattle IT is seeking candidates for an experienced Operations Supervisor for the Human Resources (HR) and Finance Application Services Team, within the Applications Division. This team supports multiple HR and Finance applications. Major applications include the City’s Human Resource/Payroll System (ADP EV5 application, and the Time and Labor system) and financial related systems include tax, licensing, budgeting, and risk management.
Job Responsibilities
This position will support the daily operational tasks and services working with client departments, mainly SHR, FAS, SCL, SPU, DOT, SPR, HSD, OH and DEEL. These applications represent a mix of commercial-off-the-shelf, SaaS, vendor hosted and on-premises as well as custom-built applications. The working environment involves interfacing with clients from all departments, understanding how IT services aid them with critical business functions and help facilitate and lead the day-to-day operational work of the HR and Finance IT team.
Here's more of what you'll be doing:
- Support business goals and find opportunities for system improvements and assists with prioritization of requested improvements.
- Mentoring and developing staff, individual training needs and training plan.
- Assist staff in setting goals that are aligned with the overall departmental objectives, conduct mid-year and annual reviews.
- Partner with other internal ITD teams on operational projects ranging in size from simple configuration change requests through multi-month projects, requiring an understanding of good project management, team leadership skills and collaborative approach.
- Supervise the work of the developers on the team and set work priorities.
- Provide expert guidance to staff on how to best use the software solutions available to support business goals and finds opportunities for system improvements.
- Work with team members to provide batch processing and bi-weekly payroll processing support by working with data center staff and vendors as needed to resolve critical issues.
- Apply leadership and business analysis expertise and provide solution or options including cost and schedule estimates.
- Provide expert experienced advice in troubleshooting and solving system issues and recommend solution options.
- Review operational activities and system modifications to ensure internal controls and conforms to standards and best practices (i.e. security, privacy, PCI, ITIL framework, etc.). Enforce system development and implementation standards across all development platforms.
- Must show ability to multi-task and resolve conflicting priorities as needed.
- Proactively and effectively communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders, partners and team members.
- Lead regular team sessions to ensure day-to-day work assignment and progress reporting. Provide monthly reporting of team performance metrics as required.
- May require some after hours on call support.
- Other duties as assigned commensurate with an Information Technology Professional - A, (ITP-A) level.
Qualifications
Note: Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for the required qualifications except where specifically noted.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience:
- Prior experience leading or supervising a technical team.
- Solid understanding of HR and Finance related applications and how they support various business needs.
- Significant experience working with various HR and finance related applications.
- Experience working effectively within a multi-cultural and or diverse workplace with cross-functional teams.
- Experience creating strong working relationships with co-workers in business units, technology teams and across all levels of the organization.
- Experience working in a Software Development Lifecycle (SDCLC) methodology (i.e. Agile, waterfall).
