Reports to:  Director of Risk Management Department:  Risk Management

Location: Ephrata 152

Provide risk control/loss control assessments and recommendations to clients and members. Some after-hours and weekend work may be required based on individual account and/or program needs.  Routine, extended overnight travel is required, including client contact/visits, conference attendance and air travel.

Essential Duties and Functions: include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Schedule and conduct member service assessments visits with recommendations.
  • Conduct presentations for member and/or program
  • Conduct risk control services and recommendations for the following entity types:
    • Facility Safety Surveys (areas may include)
      • Schools
      • Cities/towns
      • Counties
      • Fire Districts
      • Water Districts
      • Sewer Districts
      • Shops and Garages
      • Athletic facilities
      • Science labs
      • Offices
      • Classrooms
      • Restrooms
      • City Halls
      • Fire stations
      • Police departments
      • Food services
      • Correctional facilities
      • Parks and playgrounds
      • Fairgrounds and other areas associated with public
      • Shelters
      • Adult and youth transitional housing
      • Elder care facilities
      • Physical and mental care facilities
      • Casino’s and other Tribal-owned properties and enterprises
    • Follow-up, technical assistance, and coaching with members with areas of
    • Coordinate inspections by other entities, as recommended
  • Consult with members on daily operational
  • Compile and write reports based on assessments and recommendations, or at the request of other departments.
  • Conduct research into key tasks and
  • Conduct annual and on-going loss analysis for assigned accounts to identify
  • Collaborate with other departments (Underwriting, Claims, Pre-Litigation and Educational Services) to identify loss control trends
  • Develop, implement and monitor loss improvement plans for designated
  • Maintain membership and participate in applicable state-wide
  • Attend meetings, conferences and certain
  • Coordinate member and regional-based trainings

  • Have valid Washington State Driver’s License, with a good driving record and auto insurance in force.
  • Must be able to pass a FBI background
  • Attain a Property and Causality license within 6 months of hiring.
  • Be able to attain an Associate’s Degree in Risk Management (ARM) within three years of hiring.
  • Work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action


  • BA in related field and/or experience in safety and/or insurance industry preferred, however not
    • Allowable substitution: Specialized training and/or other experience can be substituted for the degree requirement

Physical Requirements Necessary on a Regular Basis:

  1. Manual dexterity, arm and upper body range of motion sufficient for use of a keyboard, mouse and telephone on a constant basis for at least 7-10 hours per day.
  2. Speech and hearing sufficient for in-person and telephone communication on a constant basis for at least 7-10 hours per
  3. Vision sufficient for use of a computer
  4. Ability to sit at a desk on a constant basis for at least 7-10 hours per day.
