Assistant Director for Research and Engagement
The School of Science, Engineering, and Technology at Penn State Harrisburg is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director for Research and Engagement. The successful candidate will be able to engage with external organizations to establish mutually beneficial relationships while working with individuals, internal and external, to exchange information, solve problems, and resolve conflicts. This position assists the Director to identify funding opportunities to support faculty/student research and projects, facilitate interactions between faculty researchers and prospective partners and develop funding sources.
The Assistant Director is expected to promote innovation, use-inspired research activities and develop opportunities for industry-supported projects, industry-supported laboratories, and seek industry support for applied research funding and graduate fellowships. The Assistant Director will strengthen relations with the industry and develop new initiatives through a variety of activities such as sponsorship of research projects, design competitions, and career fairs.
The Assistant Director will coordinate with the Office of Research and Outreach and assist with the preparation and submission of grant proposals, assist PI/co-PI with pre-award and post-award grant needs, and schedule, coordinate and conduct training sessions, seminars, and workshops for faculty and staff. Additionally, the Assistant Director serves as a liaison with the Office of Marketing Communications to promote School initiatives and accomplish marketing objectives.
Job Responsibilities:
- Establish a graduate internship program
- Support SSET's goal to establish a project center which would include a maker space and support for capstone projects
- Coordinate the annual Capstone Design Conference and sponsored projects
- Coordinate the annual SSET Career Fair in conjunction with the Career Services office
- Provide leadership to school special projects including initiating, conducting, reporting, and providing support and project management
- Develop workflow processes and ensure efficient implementation of projects
- Perform data analysis and prepare reports
- Participate in professional activities, including attending and presenting at meetings.
Education:
- A Master's degree or higher
- Plus four years of related experience
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
The salary will be based on the candidate's competencies, education, and experience.
This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with the possibility of re-funding.
