Responsible for the collecting of trash and recyclables; maintains grounds, removes snow and controls ice on campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Collects refuse and recycling items from designated locations on campus and hauls the loads by truck to the appropriate bin or container. Uploads trash into open boxes or compactors and operates compactors. Uploads recycling material (leaves, cardboard, plastic, aluminum, glass, paper) into designated bins for pickup by a recycling firm.
Maintains the appearance of the campus. Cuts the grass, prunes the trees and bushes, weeds the gardens and lawns, waters the new lawns and flowers and fertilizes areas. Rakes leaves or uses leaf blower.
Picks up trash and debris in assigned area either by hand, vacuum, sweeper, pole, or power blower.
Shovels, sweeps, or plows snow and controls ice. Monitors on-campus snuffers, clean and replace sand as necessary.
Lifts heavy loads frequently (50 - 80 lb. bags of fertilizer or ice melt).
Operates variety of power tools and equipment (backhoe, street sweeper, mower, trimmer, chain saw, vacuum, ditch-witch, leaf and snow blowers).
Operates a variety of power equipment (hydraulic lifts and all vehicles necessary in the performance of collection duties).
Performs other assigned tasks.

Required Qualifications:

Possesses valid NJ driver's license. Must obtain a DOT medical certificate to operate Grounds vehicles.
Has a minimum of two (2) years of experience with grounds maintenance or related job.
Has experience and skills operating a variety of power tools and equipment, such as backhoe, street sweeper, mower, trimmer, chain saw, vacuum, ditch-witch, leaf and snow blowers.
Has experience and skills operating a variety of power equipment, such as a hydraulic lift, and all vehicles necessary in the performance of collection duties.
Possesses pesticide operator's license (or must obtain one within 90 days after hire).
Has physical ability commensurate with the duties of the position, such as extended standing and walking, and includes extended, strenuous outside work (such as snow shoveling, raking, and digging).
