Indiana University School of Medicine, a national leader in clinical care, education, and research, is announcing the search for Chair of the Department of Medicine. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for all aspects of the Department, including but not limited to the implementation of a highly successful academic, clinical, and research enterprise.
The Department of Medicine's mission is to advance research and patient outcomes while training the next generation of leaders in internal medicine. With a long history of nationally recognized physicians and scientists, the department has well-established basic, translational and clinical research programs and is a consistent leader in IU School of Medicine's NIH funding awards. Together with collaborating research centers and institutes the Department of Medicine is in the top 15 public institutions. The department participates in the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH) - a partnership between Moi University, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, and the AMPATH Consortium of North American universities led by Indiana University. From the department's extensive selection of educational opportunities within its 10 subspecialty divisions, all learners -- from the first year of medical school through post-graduate fellowship training -- receive exceptional training from dedicated faculty in all areas of clinical internal medicine and research.
IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the country with more than 20,000 living alumni and 3,000 learners on nine campuses across the state. Its diverse faculty is made up of 2,700 full-time members and 3,200 volunteer faculty who are responsible for training medical, graduate and postgraduate students. IU School of Medicine is the only allopathic medical school in Indiana.

This position is ideal for a transformational leader who can build on existing strengths and work collaboratively with the leadership of the School of Medicine and the academic health center including IU Health, Eskenazi Health, and The Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center. Doctorate or Terminal degree is required. Minimum qualifications include an MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent), board certification in Internal Medicine, academic credentials appropriate for appointment to the rank of full professor with tenure, and eligibility for licensure in Indiana. The individual selected for this position must be a highly accomplished researcher and principled leader with exceptional communication, interpersonal and change management skills, and a strong commitment to upholding our core values including promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
