The Business Analyst Interns have three different intern positions to consider:
The Portfolio Planning and Analysis Unit is responsible for the prioritization and governance of a large, complex public infrastructure capital improvement program. Your work as an intern in this unit will help the organization make good decisions as stewards of public infrastructure. You will learn about how a large public utility prioritizes and manages its capital infrastructure investments. This position will support the project request inventory and prioritization process for the 2025-2026 capital budget. Work with analysts, project managers, operations and maintenance staff, and utility planners to develop the capital investment priorities for the utility's future. During this opportunity, you will gain skills in critical thinking, data analysis and presentation, and knowledge of public infrastructure investment decision-making.
The Lessons Learned Program Analyst will help collect information that will be used to optimize a large capital infrastructure program and replacement program. Create intranet content management, create/edit SharePoint workflows, perform data analysis and reporting related to performance measures and metrics. Your goal will be to assist in taking a fragmented system into a centralized database and streamlined process.
The Project Information & Budgeting team within the Project Control Unit, is responsible for managing the Project Information System Management Database (PRISM). It is an interface tool combining information from multiple sources for accurate management of contracts, projects and programs. In this position, you will assist the team in developing trends and models for the analysis of business performance. The intern will learn about the various analytical tools and techniques used and how the team supports ad hoc data requests for the rest of the division. A successful intern will gain experience with various business intelligence tools and see first-hand how a large organization uses data to predict future performance.

These internships would be ideal for students with a focus of academic studies in: Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Economics, Finance, Computer Science, Communications, Data Analysis, Programing, and similar majors or any with interest and applicable skills/experience.

Working Conditions:
Telecommuting and King Street Center
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly by telecommuting, with occasional onsite work and meetings, as influenced by business needs. Employee will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team.
Work Location: Primarily teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104. There will be an expectation to travel to various worksites throughout King and South Snohomish County as needed for your work.
Work Schedule: This position is non-exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. In most cases, the work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8-hour day shifts.

Job Duties
Portfolio Planning and Analysis Team
- Assist with project request collection, inventory, and/or prioritization processes.
- Create reporting for assigned processes.
- Assist with communications via the internal SharePoint site and over email.
- Manage Rollup Programs through project tracking and forecast updates.
- Identify and recommend solutions to process challenges by evaluating workflow processes across the Lessons Learned Program and implement process improvements.
- Document specific business requirements, use cases/user stories, and develop process diagrams that reflect current and future workflows.
- Work with business/technical leads to review, analyze, and configure new system functionality.
- Develop systems and utilize business analytics software to provide queries, reports, dashboards, and performance metrics that enable end users to monitor performance/compliance.
- Analyze data to determine emerging trends in project delivery over the past 5 years and make recommendations to tune existing models.
- Use various business intelligence tools to analyze ad hoc reporting needs for the organization.
- Document the existing business process on Key Performance Index reporting and make recommendations for its optimization.

- Experience with end-to-end system documentation and testing and understanding of systems engineering concepts.
- Experience with Microsoft SharePoint.
