Some the major project you may connect with during this internship:
Workforce Program Communications : Tasks include the creation of social media content for the purposes of improved college intern/entry-level employee recruitment, updating intern/new employee technical onboarding materials, assisting with the creation of technical training program content and development of web-based communications content. Deliverables could include social media content, blogs, technical training materials, presentations, and web content. The intern will work directly with Workforce Development Program, Project Planning & Delivery Section, Environmental & Community Services Section and WTD Director's Office Communications staff.
The successful candidate will be able to create a social media plan, educate existing staff on how best to recruit online and will be comfortable building relationships with existing WTD employees.
Digital Communications : The ideal candidate will be dedicated, self-starting, and eager to learn the ins and outs of government social media. Through this process, they will have the opportunity to develop their skills in social media and digital communications in a public service environment. They will enhance their skills in order to be able to strategize and optimize digital assets for public messaging, and user experience to help connect with those in our service area.
The successful candidate will be able to use social media for social marketing campaigns, encourage community engagement and provide customer service. They will be responsible for communicating King County's voice and messaging through design and branding and will work closely with other creative and communications resources.
Job Duties
Workforce Program Communications:
These internships would be ideal for students with a focus of academic studies in: Communications, public relations or environmental science or similar majors or any with interest and applicable skills/experience.

Working Conditions:
Telecommuting and King Street Center
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly by telecommuting, with occasional onsite work and meetings, as influenced by business needs. Employee will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team.
Work Location: Primarily teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104. There will be an expectation to travel to various worksites throughout King and South Snohomish County as needed for your work.
Work Schedule: This position is non-exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. In most cases, the work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8-hour day shifts.

Job Duties

- Creation of social media content for LinkedIn and similar sites to aid in recruitment for internships or of recently graduated applicants.
- Assisting in the creation of LinkedIn accounts for staff who regular hire or assist with recruitment/career fair activities.
- Develop communication plan and content for Handshake (software used by colleges to connect students with recruiters/employers).
- Development of other promotional materials for WTD's college internship and workforce development programs.
- Updating intern/new employee technical onboarding materials and existing public internship/workforce web pages.
- Creation of social media content for Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, LinkedIn and others.
- Taking and editing photos and videos, using Canva, or in-app software.
- Develop social media plans and calendar.
- Editing for grammar, plain language, clarity and "voice" of King County Wastewater Treatment Division.
- Managing social media channels for comments or questions posed by the public, providing excellent customer service
These internships would be ideal for students with a focus of academic studies in: Communications, public relations or environmental science or similar majors or any with interest and applicable skills/experience.
- Organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, and Teams
- Comfortable writing copy and developing content for social media

- Writing and/or editing blogs, newsletters and similar content (use of WordPress, GovDelivery, etc....)

- Digital Communications only- Video and photo editing in social media apps/software (Instagram, Canva, Facebook, TikTok
