Summary
The King County 911 Program Office has an exciting opportunity for a 911 IT Technician . In this position, you will have an opportunity to utilize your technical skills in a way that makes a real difference. You will be part a team that supports the 911 infrastructure in King County and help ensure that maintenance and configuration changes are carried out to prevent interruption to this critical service. You will work with end-users and vendors to maximize system efficiency, while providing the optimum service possible to the people of King County. Once trained, you will assist in providing 24/7 service on a rotating basis.
The 911 Program Office is currently implementing a new county-wide, best in class, networked, voice-over-IP 911 telephony system. The system has approximately 230 911 phone answering positions spread over 12 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) and utilizes the most advanced next-generation 911 (NG911) system features currently available. The system includes a full suite of reporting and monitoring features, including vendor supplied and managed network operations center and security operations center. As the junior member of the team, you will be asked to provide support for the team and the system, assisting in the development of new documentation and procedures as we move the system into production.

Teleworking Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of onsite work and teleworking. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations . King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.

Job Duties
- Support users of a county-wide, enterprise IP-based 911 telephony system
- Verify, document, and troubleshoot user-reported issues
- Verify documented methods-of-procedure and note issues or inconsistencies
- Coordinate vendor support, including on-site access
- Identify and report system failures, including appropriate communication
- Appropriately communicate and instances of system outages to users, vendor/vendor maintenance personnel and management
- Manage issues to resolution, including appropriate communication
- Review and respond to sites to ensure optimal system operation
- Manage physical equipment inventory, including transport and disposal as necessary
- Act as primary point of contact for after-hours support on a rotating basis
- Other duties as assigned
