- Summary
The Rural and Regional Services Section is looking for an energetic and customer service focused individual to join their salmon recovery teams. This position is an integral member of, and provides support to, the salmon recovery teams and interlocal agreement partners for the Snoqualmie/SF Skykomish, Lake Washington/Cedar/Sammamish, and Green/Duwamish and Central Puget Sound watersheds in the Rural and Regional Services Section of the Water and Land Resources Division. The position provides a wide range of administrative, technical/clerical, and communications and customer service support functions to the watershed-based salmon recovery teams and external partners. External partners include elected officials, tribes, local governments, state agencies, non-profit organizations, business and environmental interests, scientists and technical experts, educators, outreach experts, and citizens.

Telecommuting Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed by teleworking with some onsite work and meetings. The frequency of onsite work will be informed by business needs. Employees will have access to shared workspaces as needed at various King County facilities. Employee must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note, that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
Work Location: Primarily teleworking and the King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle, WA 98104.
WORK SCHEDULE: This career service, full-time position is overtime eligible. The work schedule is typically 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Monday–Friday. This position requires attendance at approximately 15 Forum meetings a year that will include hours outside of normal business hours.
- Job Duties
- Under limited supervision, independently prioritize and provide office and administration coordination services for three watershed teams.
- Provide skilled support in preparation for public and Council/Forum meetings for the three watersheds, including scheduling, coordination, communication, preparing materials, ordering refreshments, and meeting setup and takedown. This will also include taking meeting notes, and prepare summaries to document key discussion points, decisions, and action items. These meetings will be a combination of both virtual and in person.
- Support and track correspondence for watershed teams and Councils/Forums, including attending evening and weekend meetings and events. This support will include both virtual and in person meetings.
- Independently balance the priorities of the three watershed teams with understanding and flexibility, sometimes under competing, tight deadlines and pressure.
- Perform customer service and communications support to interlocal agreement partners, including answering questions, tracking event RSVPs, administering surveys, and sending letters, documents, and emails.
- Perform complex word-processing tasks, including mail-merges, legal document production/preparation, maintenance and periodic updating of mailing lists and boilerplate documents, and detailed proofreading and editing.
- Coordinate billings and billing summaries to local government partners for each watershed.
- Develop and maintain central filing system, databases, and mailing lists for watershed teams. Maintain all official records for watershed teams and file official correspondence and documents in a system that allows retrieval as needed. Includes tracking public inquiries, legislative actions, contracts, agreements, purchases, performance measures, project metrics, and developing mailing lists.
- Compose, prepare, draft, summarize, proofread, format, and edit a variety of documents, including contracts, ordinances, motions, reports, spreadsheets, and correspondence, through final form to ensure conformance with appropriate use of the English language, specialized terminology, established procedures and county standards.
- Make material and travel associated purchases for staff; research purchasing rules and assist with purchasing and contracts.
- Support and coordinate logistics for watershed tours and special events/workshops.
- Update and maintain watershed websites.
- Support development, administration, and reporting of budget information.
- Other duties requested as part of office administration.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Minimum of 3-5 years in providing excellent administrative, technical, clerical and customer service support functions in a fast-paced environment in support of a team or program.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience/education/training that clearly demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the scope of job duties of the position.
- Proven organizational, planning and scheduling skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
- Experience in using Microsite Teams, Zoom and other virtual meeting and collaboration tools.
- Excellent written communication skills that include knowledge of proper English grammar, usage, punctuation, and spelling; ability to proofread and make appropriate edits.
- Ability to summarize complex technical information about environmental and science-based content.
- Ability and experience to perform complex word-processing tasks, including mail-merges, legal document production/preparation, maintenance and periodic updating of mailing lists and boilerplate documents.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Experience working cooperatively with internal teams and external partners. Ability to work and make decisions in a team environment, and be a team player; work with the schedules of other staff while being flexible and able to compromise and resolve issues with minimal direction; work professionally with all levels of staff.
- Expert knowledge and skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; working knowledge and experience with PowerPoint and SharePoint.
- Demonstrated initiative and accountability for work products and service.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines and effectively manage time to work on multiple tasks in high pressure and short deadline environment, and to adapt to changes in workload demand and priorities.
- Demonstrated punctuality and dependability in daily attendance.
- Ability to travel throughout King County in a timely manner and attend weekend and evening events
- An interest in salmon recovery and watershed health.

A valid Washington state Driver's License or ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire
