WHO MAY APPLY: This temporary position is open to the public. Applicants must be US citizens or Legal Permanent Residents who are able to read and write the English language and meet the required background qualifications for employment with King County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) and access to required jail facilities. The King County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting for Term-Limited Temporary/Special Duty Administrative Specialist III positions that will support various units within the Sheriff’s Office. This is an exciting opportunity to join a department of approximately 1100 employees working with a wide range of customers, providing administrative support and guidance. This position is heavily relied upon to support efficient operations of the unit, providing high-level customer service to internal and external customers, in addition to office coordination that is specialized and/or technical in nature (depending on the location).
We are looking to fill several temporary positions that will support different units within the Sheriff’s Office.

WORK SCHEDULE: This temporary position has a typical work schedule of 40-hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, but may vary by assignment. Additional hours may be necessary to respond to workload needs, which may include evenings and weekends. It is overtime eligible with prior supervisor approval.
- Job Duties
- Provide customer service, and administrative and program specific support requiring interpreting established policies, procedures, codes, regulations and other relevant sources, to internal and/or external customers in various forms (phone, email, or in person);
- Handle sensitive and highly confidential situations and documents, including criminal reports, victim's personal information, crime scene evidence, and/or graphic images; some employees may have to deal with highly sensitive material;
- Research and summarize specialized or technical information from varied sources;
- Organize, oversee, establish and maintain data sources that may include contracts, legal documents and/or other records;
- Compose, draft, summarize, prepare, proofread and/or edit reports, documents, and/or correspondence to ensure proper grammar, format, terminology use, and established procedures;
- Process paper and emails accordingly, respond to information requests, prepare paperwork, invoice and collect fees;
- Organize, update and maintain files for unit, including electronic and paper files, which may be confidential and sensitive in nature;
- May represent organization at various functions, including administrative hearings, proceedings, court inquiries, committees and meetings (varies with assignment);
- Schedule meetings and maintain calendar for supervisor and/or organizational unit/program;
- Process Concealed Pistol Licenses and/or fingerprinting for various needs (varies with assignment);
- Prepares publication and sales notices, and other various paperwork for Sheriff’s auctions, may be required to assist at off-site personal and/or real property auctions (varies with assignment);
- Strong initiative and accountability in tracking work assignments, prioritizing workload, adapting to changes and following through on assignments;
- Lead other support staff (varies from assignment location).
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualified candidates will have a minimum of three years demonstrated experience with knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Administrative support with general office policies, principles and practices;
- Providing excellent customer service with discretion, patience, and professionalism;
- Providing information in a courteous and professional manner to internal/external customers;
- Conflict management and problem solving skills (must have excellent analytical skills; proven ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive matters, policies, and information)
- MS Office (intermediate level of proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook or relevant software applications);
- Ability to compose, edit, proofread documents and correspondence;
- Skilled in working independently with minimal guidance;
- Interpersonal skills;
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills;
- Ability to use standard office equipment such as computer, copier, fax, and telephone;
- Prioritizing work load and adapting to changes in work load, ability to identify and prioritize tem sensitive matters, while maintaining security and confidentiality

Since there is more than one position available, the desired skills may be different to meet the needs of each specific unit. Candidates may not need all of the desired qualifications to qualify for a position.- Court and/or legal administrative support experience
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must pass a thorough background investigations process, which includes fingerprinting, criminal history check, reference checks, polygraph test, and other tests as deemed necessary.
