Summary

The responsibilities of this classification include providing a variety of technical clerical support services.  Incumbents interview internal and external customers to establish services needed, establish and maintain data, and draft and edit documents.  Provide focused services to program volunteers, parties involved in court proceedings and the court.  Responsible for filing orders with the court and timely issuance of sensitive information and correspondence.

Work location:  This position is based in the Patricia Clark Children and Family Justice Center, 1211 E. Alder Street, Seattle, Washington.  The incumbent may be required to work at other Superior Court facilities as needed.

Work schedule and terms:  This is full-time, benefit-eligible position working a 35-hour work week.  The work week is normally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Variations from these hours may occur based on the needs of the Court.  This position is non-exempt (hourly) from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and overtime-eligible.

Job Duties

The following duties are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position at the task level.

  • Provide program-specific information to internal and external customers.
  • Establish and maintain databases.  Verify validity, accuracy, proper format and completeness of information received.  Code, modify, track and retrieve information and compile data that may require information searches through a variety of sources.
  • Interview customers to identify and document services needed.
  • Perform basic to moderate numerical calculations such as processing expense vouchers.
  • Compose, draft, proofread and edit documents or correspondence.
  • Process mail and disseminate materials and reports.
  • Modify and update desk procedures that relate to assigned work.  May take minutes at meetings, schedule meetings, and maintain calendars for supervisor or work unit or program.
  • May be assigned the orientation or training of co-workers.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.


Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

A high school diploma or equivalent, and two to three years' administrative/office experience.  Knowledge of specialized court databases and programs, and general office principles and practices.  Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Able to follow oral and written instructions.  Experience working with diverse populations and/or emotional situations with cultural sensitivity.  Able to maintain confidentiality on sensitive matters.  Must have the ability to work independently and with a team.

Supplemental Information

Necessary special requirements:  The ability to reliably travel throughout the County is required.  Finalists are subject to the Washington State Patrol criminal background check and a reference check.  Criminal background records are not automatically disqualifying.
