The King County Medical Examiner's Office (KCMEO) is seeking an Administrator III, to be a key leader in a 24/7/365 program that brings together over 40 people with diverse skills to investigate sudden, unexplained, suspicious, and unnatural deaths.

Job duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Supervise 5 administrative staff who are responsible for many specialized duties, such as:
- Creating death certificates for review by pathologists
- Transcribing autopsy reports
- Handling and releasing the property of those who have died
- Preparing the paperwork that allows people to be buried or cremated
- Purchasing, invoicing, and accounting
- Supporting meetings
- Supporting the administrative needs of the Chief Pathologist and other staff
- Providing customer service to families, funeral homes, law enforcement, hospitals and others.
- Train and evaluate staff in these specialized tasks
- Administer KCMEO educational programs including the forensic pathology fellowship program, weekly conference, and hosting medical students and residents.
- Write, manage, bill and report on grants and contracts
- Participate in budget development and preparation, analyze and monitor expenses, authorize expenditures and make recommendations on spending plans/
- Coordinate facilities issues and updates
- Oversee decedent property storage and release
- Participate in multi-program and multi-agency projects such as the Child Death Review, mass fatality planning, and others
- Oversee other KCMEO teams (investigations, autopsy technicians, overdose surveillance) in the absence of the Health Services Administrator

- Experience as a lead or supervisor of specialized technical staff in a rapidly evolving work environment
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion
- Work experience that demonstrates attention to detail
- Experience working with or in a workplace setting serving a diverse socioeconomic populations under sensitive and stressful situations
- Skill in working with the public and persons of different racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Customer service skills -working directly or over the phone with customers – citizens, providers, and vendors- in a fast paced environment (exhibiting discretion, patience, etiquette, professionalism) with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Experience in problem-solving, troubleshooting, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks simultaneously and the ability to adapt to changes in workload demands
- Will have demonstrative knowledge and work experience handling confidential medical records, including management of public records requests or helping to respond to subpoenas
- Knowledge of human resources management techniques and principles
- Knowledge of documentation management principles and practices

WORK SCHEDULE: This exempt position will typically work 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, but will at times need to be available on weekends, holidays, and at night.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:- The selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check. Having a criminal record is not automatically disqualifying.
- Employees are required to protect the privacy and security of protected health information as defined in State and Federal law.
- Employees are required to adhere to OSHA/WISHA guidelines including but not limited to completing required trainings on time.
- The Administrator III will need to drive a county vehicle, and so must have or be able to get prior to employment a Washington State driver's license
- Medical Examiner employees are required to pass a pre-employment physical.
- While the Administrator III will not regularly lift and carry heavy loads, they must have the ability to lift 175lbs., as all staff help with moving decedents
