- Summary
The Advanced Practice Nurse Specialist will provide management for occupational safety and health programs and training for all divisions within Public Health - Seattle & King County; assist in Emergency Preparedness and Communicable Disease Outbreak planning efforts; and coordinate workplace wellness programs.

QUALIFICATIONS- Substantial knowledge of occupational health nursing; health promotion and disease prevention principles and practices; community organization; multicultural and interdisciplinary coalition building strategies and techniques; needs assessment process at the systems and community level; and data analysis and display techniques.
- Working knowledge of Washington State law relating to nursing care (WAC 18.79) and federal health care regulations; professional ethics related to delivery of nursing and allied health services; adult learning and education techniques and principles; health status indicators and variability within populations; community, professional and educational resources; leadership practices; historical development, structure, and interaction of public health and individual health.
- Knowledge of and the ability to apply OSHA/WISHA standards. Knowledge of the adverse health effects of occupational exposures and the ability to recommend methods for hazard abatement and control including engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment. Knowledge of the methods of infection prevention and control.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data and draw conclusions and apply as needed to effect change, establish work priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously; communicate and maintain working relationships with diverse populations; facilitate group discussion and consensus; make public presentations, and develop training materials for healthcare providers and community partners.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Work under the supervision and guidance of the Employee Health Nurse Manager in the employee health programs: TB Surveillance, Bloodborne Pathogens and Sharps Safety, Respiratory Protection, Immunization, Communicable Disease Exposure, and Workplace Wellness/Health Promotion programs.
- Assess health and safety needs for all divisions within Public Health. Monitor and assure OSHA/WISHA and contract compliance.
- Make educational presentations to Public Health workforce and community partners regarding occupational health issues; conduct trainings r/t Bloodborne Pathogens. TB, COVID, respirator use, personal protective equipment, and any emerging pathogen/employee threat that may arise. Provide expert advice and council to internal and external customers regarding occupational health and safety.
- Participate in the department Central Safety Committee and recommend policy changes to department management relating to workplace safety and health hazards.
- Participate in Public Health Emergency Preparedness/Communicable Disease Outbreak planning efforts.
Work Schedule: Typical work schedule is Monday thru Friday from 0800 to 1700. May work outside of the typical schedule to meet operational needs.

This position will be based out of the Chinook building with some telecommuting options. Visits to various public health sites as needed will be required.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:- Current Washington State license as a Registered Nurse.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited school
- Master's degree in Nursing or equivalent experience
- Washington State Driver's License or the ability to travel to work locations with limited or no public transportation services.
- CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers
Desired Skills, Abilities and/or Attributes:- Extensive training and experience in employee health
- COHN Certification
- Multilingual and/or multicultural
