Summary



This recruitment is open to fill two-year Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) position with Fleet Services at the Georgetown Shop location. This recruitment may be used to fill additional TLT vacancies for up to 6 months.

King County Fleet Services is looking for a dedicated Automotive Mechanic who will be responsible for performing timely repair and preventive maintenance on variety of light to medium duty vehicles and equipment. This job also includes repair and maintenance as well as up-fitting and preparing new vehicles for service. This position is well-suited for an experienced dealership automotive maintenance mechanic.

Job Duties



SCOPE OF JOB DUTIES: The successful candidate, at a minimum, must demonstrate skill and ability to:
  • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnose and repair all types of gas and diesel engines.
  • Perform repairs and diagnostics on a variety of brake systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair emergency response vehicles, light bars and security device systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and replace suspension and electrical repairs to various front end suspension components, various steering system components, electrical and light problems and charging system components including battery.
  • Operate mechanical and electronic testing equipment to troubleshoot and repair systems.
  • Provide technical assistance, direction and advice to other workers and give guidance on complex mechanical repair projects.
  • Repair and maintain shop tools and machinery.
  • Read and interpret vehicle repair manuals, electric and hydraulic schematics and illustrated parts diagrams.
  • Up-fit and prepare new vehicles for service. Maintain service, maintenance, and repair records.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills



WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIATES WHO:
  • Have mechanical work experience repairing gas and diesel engines OR completion of vocational or technical school training in auto mechanics OR a recognized auto mechanics apprenticeship program.
  • Are familiar with all aspects of vehicle operation and must understand the functions of the major components and systems.
  • Are good problem solvers who can diagnose problems and make decisions about the most suitable repairs.
  • Are comfortable using servicing and maintenance tools and equipment and are familiar with the different categories of lubricants and service parts.
  • Are customer focused and able to communicate with customers, peers, managers, and supervisors.
  • Are team players and understand the value of working well as a team.
  • Are comfortable using automated computer system to document maintenance, repairs, problems on work orders.
  • Are knowledgeable of automotive shop safety rules, procedures, and equipment use.
  • Have a certification to perform mobile air conditioning repairs, ASE Mater Certification, Washington state Emissions Certification is highly desirable.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Offer of employment will be contingent upon a valid Washington State Driver License and successfully passing our Pre-Employment Physical Examination and reference check process.

POSSESS TOOLS AND EQUIPEMENT: The County provides employees with a $500 per year tool allowance. The successful candidate must submit a complete tool inventory prior to start date. Must provide own tool kit consisting of standard and metric, open end and socket wrenches including:
  • Open end wrenches: standard size ¼" through 1-1/4", Metric Size: 6mm through 20mm
  • Sockets sets: ¼", 3/8", ½" drive, standard size: ¼" through 1-1/4", Metric Size: 6mm through 20mm.
  • Various pliers, screwdrivers and other hand tools required to perform the essentials functions of the job.
  • Air operated power tools to ½" impact gun.
TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule for this position is generally 40 hours per week, Monday- Friday at the Georgetown Shop: 707 S. Orcas St. Seattle, WA 98108. This position is Mission Critical. Alternative schedules may be required along with mandatory overtime and weekend work during emergencies.

UNION MEMEBERSHIP: This position will be represented by Local 289 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
