Do you like driving and physical work? This short-term assignment provides an amazing opportunity to be engaged in the election process!
We are currently recruiting individuals to create a roster of skilled temporary employees who will work in the Short-Term Temporary Ballot Van Driver position during the King County 2024 Election Year. Training is provided to perform assigned work.
King County Elections (KCE) manages voter registrations and elections for more than 1.4 million voters in King County, one of the largest vote-by-mail counties in the United States. KCE's mission is to conduct accessible, secure, and accurate elections. Forms and Materials Required: King County online application and answers to the supplemental questions are required. Applications will be reviewed as received.
Work Location: The work site for this position is the King County Elections Building located at 919 SW Grady Way in Renton.
Work Schedule: Start dates for assignments are scheduled for October 11 and November 1, assignments may last for a few days, up to one (1) month. The work schedule on Election Day (November 5th), will be adjusted to start earlier and end by 11:00 p.m. The number of hours average 20 hours per week but may be more or less as work needs change. The work schedule will vary according to the workload including additional evenings and weekends.
This position is non-exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.
The ideal candidate will have:
Travel to work locations throughout King County with limited or no public transportation services is required. A valid Washington State Driver's License is required to operate King County vehicles; must be 21 years old.
A final offer of temporary employment will be contingent upon the review of an official Washington State Driving Abstract establishing a good driving record.
Testing: Candidates who meet the qualifications will be invited in for testing which is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, September 25th and Friday, September 27th. Testing will consist of a small physical capacity test of no more than 25 pounds and a basic driving test.
Union: This position is represented by Teamsters Local 117, Joint Units Agreement.

Job Duties
- Working as part of a two-person team, this position will drive a cargo van to assigned locations and collect ballots from drop boxes following standard department procedures and election law.
- Answer basic voter questions.
- Load and unload ballots & securely transport ballots back to the King County Elections Building in Renton.
- Process incoming ballots which may require standing or sitting in one location for long periods of time.
- Provide customer service and use team building skills.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working in a diverse team environment.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time in inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to use an Apple iOS smart phone device and applications.
- Ability to work with and provide exceptional customer service to the public.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stand, reach, climb stoop, squat, and lift 25 pounds.
