King County Department of Local Services - Road Services Division is seeking an action oriented, customer focused Engineer II in the Bridge Unit with civil engineering experience in bridge design and project management. Project Management:
INTERVIEW SCHEDULE:

WHO MAY APPLY:

First consideration will be given to current PROTEC17 members in the same classification that are eligible for lateral transfer.

The work week is normally Monday through Friday, 8.00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but may at times require work outside of normal business hours. This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standard Act and is eligible for overtime pay, with prior supervisor approval.
EMERGENCY DESIGNATION STATUS: This position has been designated Non-Mission Critical - Employees who staff county functions or services that may be delayed, suspended, or diverted in an emergency while essential functions are prioritized Mission Critical.

TELEWORKING REQUIREMENT
This is a hybrid position. The work associated with this position will be performed by teleworking, onsite work and meetings as needed. The responsibilities of this position will include regular and ongoing in-office work.
Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

Job Duties
Applying equity, racial, and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. In this role, you will apply equity and social justice principles that exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices to all aspects of the work.
Project Management:
- Assist in civil and structural engineering design and project management duties of complicated road and bridge design projects under the direction of a project manager.
- Support the Bridge Unit with design development and review of technical reports, plans, specifications, bid item quantity calculations, and cost estimates.
- Assist in the preparation and updating of project schedules and monitoring of project deliverables.
- Assist in consultant contract coordination and negotiation.
- Coordinate with consultants, regulatory agencies, utility companies, support staff and the public to resolve project issues.
- Maintain project records and related project documents.Assist in performing routine and special inspections of existing bridges and roadway structures, as needed.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge of engineering principles.
- Experience working in engineering related fields.
- Experience contributing to a work environment that embraces and encourages diversity in its workforce and where differences are valued.
- Experience with civil/structural layout and design using Civil3D/AutoCAD, as well as Bluebeam, Microsoft Office software such as Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Experience with project schedules including review, analysis and tracking of progress.
- Ability to perform field evaluations in all weather conditions and review and provide recommendations for project scope and construction cost estimates.
- Skill in effectively working on multiple projects and priorities under close deadlines and changing priorities.
- Ability to read, interpret, and develop engineering plans, specifications and cost estimates for road, bridge, drainage and stream construction, and research and interpret applicable codes, policies, and regulations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, and in handling politically sensitive issues.
- Ability to respond to frequently changing work responsibilities.
- Ability to work with diverse individuals and customers and maintain effective relationships, demonstrating behaviors that include fairness, respect, and inclusiveness.
- Experience in preparing independent cost estimates such as construction costs and consultant services.
- Valid Washington Driver's License or the ability to obtain a Washington State license within 30 days of hire.
- An offer of employment will be contingent on the success of a pre-employment physical examination.
