In this role, you will join our leadership team and collaborate with scientists on environmental data systems and workflows for faster, more impactful results.
Why It's a Great Team: The Science and Technical Support Section is a Seattle-based team of over 40 highly-qualified technical professionals with broad-ranging disciplines. We collaborate with the other County programs, universities, state agencies, and others.
Who is Eligible: This position is open to the public, but first consideration will be given to all current King County PROTEC Local 17A bargaining unit employees eligible for a lateral transfer (transferring within the Business Analyst classification and having passed probation).
Telecommuting Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly by teleworking, complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment.
Work Location: Predominately teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104.
Work Schedule: This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.- Job Duties
- Manage, develop, and document data systems and workflows so they are efficient, dependable, and align with best practices for data governance.
- Collaboratively design data dashboards and web pages to meet user requirements and advance environmental justice by making data and information about environmental trends openly available to everyone.
- Facilitate interactions between King County Information Technology and Science staff to find back-end solutions to our data system needs.
- Coach staff to adopt and use the best tools, platforms, and processes to manage, QA/QC, transform, store, and visualize our environmental data.
- Design and implement performance feedback systems to drive continuous improvement for the benefit of end-users of our data systems.

Minimum Qualifications
- Experience working with environmental scientists and monitoring data.
- Skill in analysis, design, and development of data systems and technical workflows.
- Skill in working with and for with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
- Skills in facilitation, collaborative problem-solving, and change management.
- Demonstrated ability to design dashboards and web pages that simplify complex information.
- Skills in SQL, R, Python, Tableau, Socrata, Collibra, Power BI, and/or other cloud-based BI systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work remotely under supervision, independently, and in a collaborative team.
- Experience with end-to-end system documentation and testing.
- Understanding of systems engineering concepts.
- Experience advancing environmental justice with data and technology.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in clear, direct, and plain language.
- Experience using web content management platforms such as SiteCore.
- Tech Savvy: Anticipating and adopting innovations in business-building digital and technology applications.
