Summary
This position is an opportunity to forge new and needed connections between frontline communities, climate justice, and local government through creative approaches to designing grantmaking and community learning opportunities. This role also supports implementation of the Sustainable & Resilient Frontline Communities (SRFC) section of King County's 2020 Strategic Climate Action Plan ( 2020 SCAP ) which outlines County commitments to partner with frontline communities on climate solutions. The SRFC Section was co-created with the Climate Equity Community Task Force (CECTF) and is King County's first framework for climate justice.
You will work with a supportive, collaborative, and dynamic team that is deeply committed to equitable and just climate action. This position will also collaborate with diverse interdepartmental leadership and staff implementing County efforts on climate. Some major projects include:
This is a Special Duty or Term-Limited Temporary position. This Term-Limited Temporary position is an "at will" position but is eligible for benefits. This position is currently anticipated to last until March 31, 2026.
Job Duties
Telecommuting and King Street Center
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly by telecommuting, with occasional onsite work and meetings, as influenced by business needs. Employee will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team.
Work Location: Primarily teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104. There will be an expectation to travel to various worksites throughout King and South Snohomish County as needed for your work.
Work Schedule: This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.
Monday through Friday.

Job Duties
- Development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of a community-led grant program in partnership with the Climate Equity Community Task Force.
- Development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of a community-led two-year Climate Justice Learning Series in partnership with the Climate Equity Community Task Force.
- Cultivate relationships and partnerships with climate justice leaders and organizations in King County.
- Support and partner with appropriate King County agencies to promote programs, actions, and events advancing SRFC goals and commitments.
- As appropriate, develop and update climate equity content for internal and external County websites.
- Minimum 3 years' experience (professional, academic, organizing, lived, etc.) related to environmental or climate justice; working with communities of color, equitable community education, engagement, and partnership building;
- Minimum 2 years' experience with project management of environmental, climate equity, community resilience, public health, affordable housing, youth programming, or related issues.
- Strong understanding and prior experience applying climate justice, equity, race and social justice principles, and community partnership best practices.
- Experience building relationships and working collaboratively with limited English-speaking populations, immigrant/refugee communities, BIPOC communities and culturally diverse communities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to develop and deliver multi-mode communications tailored to the unique needs of different audiences.
- Demonstrated success managing projects, resources, and multiple priorities.
- A valid Washington State Driver's License or an alternate ability to get to meetings and field sites not served by transit at varying times of day.
- Strong functional and technical knowledge and experience in one or more climate related topics such as transportation, food systems, energy, green building, consumption and materials, climate impacts and preparedness, and climate and environmental justice.
- Experience building relationships and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholder groups.
- Strong analytical and strategic planning skills; ability to anticipate emergent issues and approaches.
- Experience with organizing and facilitating discussion of focus groups, workshops, collaborative governance processes, or community-driven policy development.
