Join our team! The Community Corrections Division is seeking qualified candidates to fill up to four (4) Caseworker positions. Caseworkers engage with a diverse group of adult offenders who may face various health, mental health, alcohol, and substance abuse challenges.
We are looking for candidates with experience working with at-risk adults in behavioral health organizations, correctional facilities, or security-focused environments. Relevant experience includes conducting assessments, developing programs, and providing individual and group counseling related to behavior and program orientations.
ABOUT THE DIVISION: The Community Corrections Division has three programs - Community Center Alternative Programs (CCAP), Electronic Home Detention (EHD), and Intake Services Unit (ISU). Caseworkers work in CCAP and EHD. The EHD and CCAP programs are housed in the King County Yesler Building, 400 Yesler Way in downtown Seattle. EHD work with participants that are out in the community completing their sentence. CCAP work with participants who partake in a continuum of structured programs.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) is a professional and nationally recognized organization that supports safe, vibrant, and healthy communities in partnership with other criminal justice and human service agencies. DAJD operates the largest county jail in the State of Washington, housing an average daily population of more than 1400 inmates.
DEPARTMENT'S MISSION: The DAJD contributes to the public safety of the citizens of King County and Washington State by operating safe, secure, and humane detention facilities and community corrections programs, in an innovative and cost-effective manner.
This recruitment will create an eligibility list which may be used to fill future Career Service, Term Limited Temporary or Special Duty Assignment Community Corrections Caseworker vacancies.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position will work a 40-hour work week and is overtime eligible (provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act). Caseworkers must be available to work all shifts/schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Schedule and program assignments (CCAP or EHD) are subject to the staffing needs of the department and are subject to collective bargaining unit seniority bid processes.

Job Duties

- Conduct comprehensive, relevant assessments to determine level of programming; assess criminal history, internal and external information sources, and motivation for change in determining eligibility.
- Evaluate offenders to determine degree of risk to the community and place accepted applicants based on criteria for Electric Home Detention (EHD), and Community Center for Alternative Programs (CCAP).
- Screen internal and external referrals to determine possible program eligibility.
- Provide daily one-on-one and group counseling services to help program participants deal effectively with various problems including personal behavior, finances, stress management, and program orientation.
- Conduct field monitoring through random visits to employment/training sites to ensure program compliance; prepare and validate participant release schedules.
- Conduct daily management of convicted felons and misdemeanants released into community including maintaining case files and contracts with client, attorneys, courts, victims, and agencies. Daily management duties also include providing counseling, confronting behavior, reporting violations, and removing non-compliant program participants.
- Conduct case load management according to developed behavioral modification plans and assess daily activities for compliance.
- Evaluate program participants to determine treatment needs, develop treatment plans, and ensure compliance.
- Review program rules/requirements, probation conditions, and court orders with program participants to ensure understanding of release conditions.
- Facilitate and monitor involvement with social service providers.
- Will complete other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Degree in criminal justice, law and justice, social work, or behavioral sciences.
- Understanding of evidence-based practices for working with offenders.
- Experience using computers and electronic database programs to conduct inquiries, as well as to access, retrieve, and update data and records.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, along with comfort in using office productivity software and relational databases in daily tasks.
- Experienced in conducting Risk Need Assessments.
- Experienced in facilitating cognitive behavioral groups.
- Trained in Motivational Interviewing.
- Experienced working in a behavioral health organization or in the corrections field.
- One-year of full-time experience working with at-risk adults in correctional or security-oriented environment.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of professional, full-time paid work experience identifying, interviewing, and assessing persons with behavior, mental health, drug, and/or alcohol related issues, including experience working with potentially volatile clientele.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders to serve a diverse population.
- Prior work experience working in therapeutic community.
- Completed Motivational Interviewing Coding with a recognized trainer.
