Community Corrections Caseworker (SDA or TLT)

Come join our team! The Community Corrections Division is looking for a Caseworker who will work with a diverse population of adult offenders who may have multiple health, mental health, alcohol and/or substance abuse concerns.
This is a Special Duty opportunity for King County Career Service employees or Term Limited Temporary (TLT) opportunity for external candidates. This opportunity is expected to last up to 24 months. However, special duty assignment durations are subject to change and may either be ended earlier or extended as needed. If the assignment is extended, other limitations may apply.
This recruitment may be used to fill future CCD Caseworker special duty assignments or term-limited temporary vacancies in 2020.
About the program:
The Community Corrections Division has five programs – Community Center Alternative Programs (CCAP), Work Education Release (WER), Electronic Home Detention (EHD), Community Work Program (CWP), and Intake Services Unit (ISU). Caseworkers work in all programs, except ISU.
WER and EHD are located in the King County Courthouse. EHD work with participants that are out in the community completing their sentence. WER participants reside in the courthouse, with passes to attend work or treatment programs. CCAP is located in the Yesler Building, working with participants who partake in a continuum of structured programs. CWP is located on Hiawatha St. CWP participants perform supervised manual labor for various public service agencies, to complete their sentences.
Applicants must be able to work at any location as these program assignments are to be determined.

The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) is a professional and nationally recognized organization that supports safe, vibrant, and healthy communities in partnership with other criminal justice and human service agencies. DAJD operates the largest county jail in the State of Washington, housing an average daily population of more than 1900 inmates.- Job Duties
To be considered for this opportunity, you must at a minimum, demonstrate knowledge, skill and ability to;
- Conduct comprehensive relevant assessments to determine level of programming; assess criminal history, internal and external information sources, and motivation for change in determining eligibility.
- Evaluate offenders to determine degree of risk to the community and place accepted applicants based on criteria for Work Education Release (WER), Electric Home Detention (EHD), Community Center for Alternative Programs (CCAP), Community Work Program (CWP).
- Screen internal and external referrals to determine possible program eligibility.
- Provide daily one-on-one and group counseling services to help program participant's deal effectively with various problems, including personal behavior, finances, stress management and program orientation.
- Conduct field monitoring through random visits to employment/training sites to ensure program compliance; prepare and validate participant release schedules.
- Conduct daily management of convicted felons and misdemeanants released into community, including maintaining case files and contracts with client, attorneys, courts, victims and agencies. Daily management duties also include providing counseling, confronting behavior, reporting violations and removing non-compliant program participants.
- Conduct case load management according to developed behavioral modification plans and assess daily activities for compliance.
- Evaluate program participants to determine treatment needs, develop treatment plans and ensure compliance.
- Review program rules/requirements, probation conditions and court orders with program participants to ensure understanding of release conditions.
- Facilitate and monitor involvement with social service providers.
- Knowledge of evidence based offender practices.

Our ideal candidate will have experience in working with at-risk adults in a behavioral health organization, correctional or security orientated environment. Job related experience to include conducting assessments, programming, one-on-one and group counseling related to behavior and/or program orientations.
Degree with major coursework in criminal justice, law and justice, social work or behavioral sciences.
Computer proficiency; selected candidate must be able to utilize computers/electronic database programs to conduct inquiries and to access, retrieve and update data/records.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite and are comfortable with the use of office productivity software and relational databases in their daily work.
We are looking for candidates who are:- Experience with conducting Risk Need Assessments
- Experience with facilitating cognitive behavioral groups
- Trained in Motivational Interviewing
- Prior experience working in a behavioral health organization or in the corrections field.
- Earned a degree in criminal justice, law and justice, social work or behavioral sciences.
- Computer proficiency; selected candidate must be able to utilize computers with /electronic database programs to conduct inquiries and to access, retrieve and update data/records.
- One year full-time experience working with at risk adults in correctional or security orientated environment.
- Professional, full-time paid work experience, three to five years, identifying, interviewing and assessing persons with behavior, mental health, drug and/or alcohol related issues, including experience working with potentially volatile clientele.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders to serve a diverse population.
- Prior experience working in therapeutic community
- Completed Motivational Interviewing Coding with recognized trainer

Work Schedule: The current opening is for a 40-hour workweek. Candidates are required to be available to work days Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Schedule assignments are subject to the staffing needs of the department.
Work Location: Position may be assigned to work at any of the following Seattle locations within the Community Corrections Division: King County Courthouse (516 Third Ave), King County Yesler Building (400 Yesler Way) or King County Hiawatha Building (925 Hiawatha Place S).
Union membership: This position is represented by Public Safety Employees Union, Non-Commissioned Employees.
All candidates must have a valid Washington State driver's license at the time of employment.
