ABOUT THE POSITION: DAJD is accepting applications to fill one (1) full-time Community Corrections Placement Specialist position. DAJD is seeking highly qualified candidates interested in making a difference for justice involved youth and their families. The Community Corrections Placement Specialist is responsible for screening, supervising and/or monitoring compliance of individuals placed into the Electronic Home Monitoring programs. The Community Corrections Placement Specialist plays a crucial role in achieving King County's goal of providing safe alternatives to secure detention which contributes to the Zero Youth Detention Roadmap.

WORK SCHEDULE: The normal workday is eight and one-half hours (1/2 hour unpaid lunch), generally between the hours of 7am and 7pm. This position is overtime eligible, provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Work hours for this position vary. The individual selected for this position must be available to work a schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime.

Job Duties
- Interview adult or youth and parent/guardian to assess willingness and ability to cooperate with staff.
- Review offense information, criminal history, mental health, family system, community engagement, possible drug or chemical involvement, etc.
- Prepare court documentation.
- Review court orders with adult or youth and parents to ensure understanding and agreement.
- Make court presentations as needed.
- Assess community risk factors and develop and coordinate appropriate placement.
- Schedule and conduct orientation meeting with adult or youth and family, probation officer, defense attorney and community service provider to outline and define program expectations.
- Coordinate physical placement of applicant into designated or Electronic Home Monitoring program.
- Provide ongoing liaison and coordination with court personnel, school officials, law enforcement, and others involved.
- Facilitate client's efforts to fulfill requirements for remaining in community under intensive supervision.
- Make daily, random telephone and in-person contacts with youth on community supervision or conditional release.
- Respond to crisis and provide conflict resolution.
- Develop and maintain contact with community resources.
- Maintain records of daily contacts with youths and supervise their activities.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in social sciences, law and justice or related field.
- Five (5) years of full-time experience working with juveniles in a criminal justice setting and electronic home monitoring.
- Must have knowledge of observation, interviewing and crisis intervention techniques for juveniles.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be flexible, highly motivated, and capable of working independently with minimum supervision.
- Experience working within an Alternatives to Secure Detention (ASD) program.
- The ability to work well and productively with a wide variety of individuals at various levels of responsibility.
- Experience understanding juvenile court processes, interpreting court orders, and working with court operations.
- Ability to problem-solve and be proactive in dealing with anticipated challenges.
- Demonstrated computer skills.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Experience utilizing criminal justice software systems
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize workload and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to a diverse population of internal and external stakeholders. Must have good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with clients and/or offenders with deviant behaviors, including mental health, alcohol and/or substance abuse and anger management issues.
- Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service.
- Ability to provide direction during crisis and successfully manage conflict while maintaining composure.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain effective communication and objective interactions with others.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining confidentiality, personal integrity, and dependability.
- Ability to gain and maintain the trust of staff and the public.
