COVID-19 Testing RN (Mobile Assessment Team):
This position is a member of the Public Health – Seattle & King County COVID-19 Mobile Assessment Team (MAT) which is responsible for providing COVID-19 testing for people who are at high risk for severe illness from the disease and are not able to access testing at a hospital or clinic. For example, residents of supportive housing programs, behavioral health residential programs, shelters, adult family homes, and assisted living or long-term care (LTC) facilities.
The position is responsible for staffing field testing events and participating in the health department's COVID-19 response. This position is based at the Columbia Public Health building in South Seattle however the incumbent will spend the majority of time working offsite. The work schedule is variable with some evenings and weekends required, however most testing events are scheduled Monday-Friday, 8 am – 5 pm. The position reports to the COVID MAT Program Manager in the Healthcare for the Homeless Program of the Community Health Services Division.
Major program responsibilities:- Staff field COVID-19 testing events with a focus on people experiencing homelessness and elderly residents of long-term care facilities.
- Participate in the department's COVID-19 response, as assigned and approved by the supervisor.
Specific responsibilities:- Staff on-site COVID-19 testing events with a focus on people experiencing homelessness and elderly residents of long-term care facilities.
- Travel to testing events, transport test kits, PPE and other supplies, and assist with equipment (tent, table) set-up and breakdown.
- Maintain sufficient COVID-19 testing supplies and PPE in personal go-kits based on the number of facilities to be visited in a day, number of patients expected to be tested at each facility, and length of time at each facility, while taking into account changing PPE between facilities, breaks, and lunches.
- Fill out lab requisition forms and label specimen tubes accurately and legibly.
- Collect oropharyngeal (OP), nasopharyngeal (NP), mid-turbinate (MT) and anterior nares (AN) swabs within scope of professional duties and store properly.
- Don and doff PPE per MAT standard operating procedures.
- Transport samples to designated laboratory.
- Deliver patient line list and after-action report to MAT Program Manager
- Participate in department's COVID-19 response
- Participate in COVID-19 response activities in collaboration with CHS Division staff, as assigned, including but not limited to administering questionnaires, ensuring safe storage and handling of biologicals and other supplies, ensuring adequate documentation of medical procedures, and reviewing patient health histories.
Qualifications:- Knowledge of COVID-19 disease and infectious disease management and control.
- Demonstrated experience collecting oropharyngeal (OP), nasopharyngeal (NP), mid-turbinate (MT) and/or anterior nares (AN) swabs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, be flexible, and manage multiple assignments in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to provide crisis intervention/de-escalation with high-risk and special needs populations.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out assignments and responsibilities reliably in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of protected health information at all times.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate orally and in writing with supervisor, co-workers, and healthcare providers.
- Demonstrated ability to work in community settings with culturally and socio-economically diverse populations.
- Washington State Driver's License or the ability to provide transportation to work locations with limited or no public transportation services is required.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:- Current Washington State Registered Nurse license in good standing.
- Associate degree in nursing science from an accredited school of nursing.
- Washington State Driver's license or ability to deploy to various sites throughout King County
Desired qualifications:- Understanding of and familiarity with homeless services and affordable housing in King County.
- Training in or knowledge of harm reduction, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, and street-based outreach.
- Two years clinical experience (inpatient or outpatient).
