Summary

We are seeking a full-time Custodian to perform a variety of cleaning tasks in public and staff areas at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, WA.  Primary duties include picking up trash, emptying trash cans, floor care, cleaning tile, cleaning restrooms, locker rooms and kitchen facilities.  Additionally, this position is tasked with cleaning windows and doors, restocking supplies, event setup and tear down, and cleaning balconies and banquet hall facilities and delivering customer service during large events and programs.
 
The Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center (WKCAC) maintains one of the most active competition schedules in the country. These all-day competitions include high profile televised national and international events that have a lasting impact on King County’s image in the region and country.
 
In addition to the aquatic sporting events, WKCAC is open to the public for team training, lap swims, family swims, and swimming lessons. WKCAC also has a banquet hall available for weddings, parties, and company events.

Work Location:  King County Aquatics Center, 650 SW Campus Dr., Federal Way, WA 98023, Washington 

Work Schedule:  This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. The full-time position works 40 hours per week.  
The  work schedule is:                                           
       Sat      7:00am-5:30pm                                                
       Sun     7:00am-5:30pm                                                        
       Mon    11:00am-9:30pm                                                
       Tue     11:00am-9:30pm                                                  
                                                                          

Job Duties

  1. Perform heavy-duty cleaning and related maintenance work during highly participated sporting events and banquet hall functions. 
  2. Clean and maintain stadium seats, concourses, corridors, stairways, rooms, and large gathering spaces. 
  3. Safeguard exterior sidewalks, patios, and stairwells; using blowers and pressure washers as needed.
  4. Help stage gathering spaces; move furniture and crowd control stanchions; and assemble facility tents.
  5. Perform high volume trash management, including collecting recycling and compost. 
  6. Clean, sanitize, stock, and maintain large public restrooms and locker rooms.
  7. Respond to spills and biohazardous incidents; clean and disinfect area and equipment; properly dispose of contaminated waste.
  8. Clean and restock large caterers’ kitchen, hospitality rooms and food concession eating area during and after service times.
  9. Clean glass windows; clean and disinfect fixtures and surface areas throughout the facilities.
  10. Launder facility towels, linens and lost and found items.
  11. Provide first aid and CPR; direct the public during emergencies and evacuations.
  12. Perform maintenance and minor repairs of custodial heavy equipment.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
  14. Carry and operate a two-way radio; operate public address system as needed.
  15. Promote good relationships with public and user groups.
  16. Complete work assignments efficiently using initiative, problem-solving skills, and good judgment.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  •  Knowledge of and experience with basic janitorial cleaning techniques and cleaning products.
  • Experience in the use and care of cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to operate floor scrubber, floor buffer, and other applicable cleaning equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to positively interact with a variety of people in a diverse work environment.
  • Skill in prioritizing and efficiently completing tasks simultaneously with the ability to adapt to changes in workload demand.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, using discretion, patience, etiquette, and professionalism.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to operate a computer to complete timesheets, read and respond to email, and perform some administrative tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to swim 25 yards is very desirable
Necessary Requirements:
 
Possess and maintain current American Red Cross certifications in:
 First Aid
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
  • Bloodborne Pathogen. 
  • If you do not possess at the time of hire, must obtain certifications within 90 days of hire.
 An offer of employment will be contingent upon successful passage of criminal background check, reference check, and a pre-employment physical.
