Working within the property tax unit of King County Treasury, you must stay calm under pressure while handling a high volume of customer service inquiries, administering to multiple customer service functions, and expertly using tools and technologies for accomplishing tasks.
Our section within Treasury collects, distributes, and invests property taxes and other public revenues, as well as manages long term debt payments, for King County and other taxing districts.

Minimum Qualifications:
The Finance and Business Operations Division's mission is to provide exceptional customer value for accounting, procurement, treasury, and small business services. We are actively seeking employees whose behavior is in alignment with our division's core values.
Other Position Information:
This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore is overtime eligible. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 35-hour workweek; normally 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position is represented by Teamsters 117.
Term-Limited Temporary employees are eligible for full County benefits, including accrued vacation and sick leave, free healthcare plans (medical, dental and vision), paid holidays, and free ORCA transit pass.
The work associated with this position will be hybrid. This position will work from home as well as in the office depending on operational and business needs.
Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop. When working remotely employees must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.

- Consistent with King County values and goals of customer service excellence, provide information to customers in a courteous and respectful manner, even if customers are challenging and difficult; accurately communicate details related to property accounts and taxpayer issues.
- Apply active listening skills to understand customer needs; use systems and resources to gather information; analyze information and problem solve account details and provide clear information and direction.
- Skilled at working in a front-facing customer service environment.
- Have excellent phone skills, as a good portion of the job requires assisting taxpayers over the phone.
- Working under the direction of the section lead and in collaboration with team members, administer to various tasks as assigned which includes property tax billing and collection.
- Effectively use multiple systems, applications and tools needed to deliver information on the spot; quick to learn new systems and procedures, and eager to learn new technologies.
- Research, resolve and respond to customer issues including payment, billing and collection discrepancies; work with other departments in resolving customer issues and reconciling property tax accounts.
- Understand and apply applicable Washington State statutes, King County Code, and internal procedures.
- Cross train with others as directed; work independently as needed or in teams; work remotely or in an office setting depending upon direction and needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience working in front line customer service or billing and collection.
- Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively with team members to establish daily, weekly, and monthly schedules for the purpose of having optimal onsite staff coverage while accommodating some remote work options for the team, when possible.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy, time management and organizational skills; ability to organize multiple tasks, and effectively handle customer concerns and needs that may have competing priorities.
- Ability to deescalate stressful interactions and maintain calm in stressful situations.
- Basic proficiency in using Microsoft Excel & Word.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, writing and customer service skills.
- Intermediate level of technology proficiency using MS Office Productivity tools in your daily work .
- Ability to manage your time and adapt to changing priorities, work on multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, meet quick deadlines, and produce timely and quality work products.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement tools and techniques, such as LEAN processes and principles.
- Experience with SharePoint, MS Teams and other collaborative online tools.
