Dentist - Downtown Public Health Center Dental Clinic

Public Health - Seattle & King County has a great opportunity for a full-time Dentist to support our Downtown Dental Clinic. Our clinic provides preventive, restorative, oral surgery and removable prosthodontic services to a diverse and high-needs population of teens and adults. Nearly 80% of patients have unstable housing or are living homeless. We partner with local shelters and housing services to provide dental care to those who need it most. There is high demand for our services and we strive to provide access to all who need us. Between two dentists and four dental assistants, the clinic serves nearly 40 clients per day.
The candidate selected for this position will work well within a team environment, be comfortable sharing patients, accommodating walk-ins and late patients.

- Perform clinical duties as allowed by the Washington State Dental Practice Act, RCW 18.32.
- Provide clinical dental services to targeted populations, such as homeless adults and teens.
- Collaborate with site management and other staff dentist to provide leadership in quality dental practice and optimum team functioning.
- Provide oversight of clinical dental practice.
- Provide professional and technical expertise and direction to dental assistants/dental hygienists.
- Attend off-site staff and dental practice meetings with the ability to return to work site within a reasonable time frame.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Current Washington State License to practice dentistry.
- A National Provider Identification (NPI) must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration must be obtained within 30 days of employment. Public Health can assist with acquiring DEA registration.
- The selected candidate must be able to work as a Medicaid accepted provider. Public Health will assist selected candidate in registration with Medicaid.
- Maintain good standing with respect to your credentials and privileges to practice dentistry.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of Dental Public Health Practice.
- Thorough knowledge and skills regarding preventive, restorative, and prosthodontic dentistry.
- Ability to provide leadership and work as a team member in a fast paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Skilled in team building, leadership and problem-solving.
- Skilled in managing conflict, reading situations quickly, and using listening and cooperation to settle disputes equitably.
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining working relationships and working with diverse populations, staff, and cultures.
- Experience in quadrant dentistry.
- Experience working with clients with complex medical and mental health issues.
- Experience working with homeless populations.
- Experience with simple and complex extractions.
- Experienced working in a community or public health setting.
- Experience working with Electronic Health Records.

- Public Health relies on office automation (Microsoft Office) and web-based enabled tools, therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.

- Staff may be required to play a role as a first responder in the event of a Public Health emergency.
- The selected candidate must be credentialed and privileged with a provisional clinical staff appointment prior to the actual practice date and remain credentialed and privileged with re-appointments (re-credentialing) every two years.
- The selected candidate is responsible for licensure renewal in a timely manner as required by the Dental Quality Assurance Commission and as required by law.
- The selected candidate must pass a thorough background investigation.
- Employees are required to protect the privacy and security of protected health information as defined in State and Federal Law.
- Employees are required to adhere to OSHA/WISHA guidelines including but not limited to completing their mandatory trainings on time.
- Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License or the ability to travel to and between work sites or other remote locations with limited or no public transportation.

Work Location:
This position will primarily work at the Downtown Public Health Center located at 2124 4th Ave Seattle, WA 98121. 1.0 FTE position, reports to Martha Castro and Moffett Burgess
On occasion, this position may be deployed to other Public Health Centers and service sites to meet operational needs.
Work Schedule:
This position has a regular schedule of M-F 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and may be required to work outside of these days and hours.
