Special Assault Unit
The Special Assault Unit of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is seeking experienced trial prosecutors to join our team. These are meaningful opportunities to join one of the first specialized units in the country to deal exclusively with cases involving the sexual and physical abuse of children, as well as sexual offenses against adults. Job Duties
Special Assault Unit (SAU) prosecutors work with legal service professionals, law enforcement, the Children's Justice Center of King County , external victim advocates, and other community partners on these complex and sensitive cases with a victim centered approach. Core duties include trying adult and child sex offenses as well as felony child physical abuse cases, pre-trial case preparation and management through trial and post-conviction hearings.
SAU trial deputies are based out of the King County Courthouse in Seattle or the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent and have the ability to telecommute when not in trial.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
$116,013.24 - $158,683.20+ annually, commensurate with experience.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- 5+ years of experience as a prosecutor with 3+ years of felony prosecution.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to effectively work with victims of crime, victim advocates, and law enforcement.
- Experience working with fellow attorneys, legal service professionals, and advocates collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience working with law enforcement.
- Experience with case development, including but not limited to more complex search warrant reviews.
- Expediently facilitating defense interviews.
- Familiarity with forensics, including SANE exams and DNA.
- The ability to successfully engage in a practice with considerable pre-trial litigation.
- The ability to try Class A and B sex offenses and child physical abuse cases to verdict.
- Passion and commitment to continually improve trial practice.
- Understanding of a victim-centered and trauma-informed approach.
- Knowledgeable regarding the sensitive and complex nature of sexual assault cases and their dynamics.
- Strong legal research, writing, oral argument, presentation, and analysis skills.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to Race, Equity and Social Justice (RESJ) issues, including continual development of personal cultural competency to better understand RESJ and its impact on our work and community.
- Must be Washington State Bar qualified.
- Member in good standing with the Washington State Bar.
- Must submit to a criminal history check.
- U.S. Citizenship (per RCW 36.27 and 29A.04 and Article VI of the WA Constitution).
