Summary
DJA is seeking a Resource Specialist to work as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary Drug Diversion Court (DDC) team supporting individuals with substance use disorder in achieving employment and stable housing, recovery from drugs and alcohol, and dismissal of felony charges through successful program completion.
The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) provides professional, high-quality Superior Court record services and justice system programs, while ensuring access to justice and integrity in the process. DDC is a criminal justice diversion program administered by DJA for adults charged with felony property and other drug-related crimes.
The DDC Resource Specialist serves as a member of the multidisciplinary DDC team, working directly with DDC participants to assist them with identifying goals and accessing vocational, educational and other ancillary services such as food, clothing, identification, transportation, healthcare, and financial benefits. This position also involves engaging local employers and vocational organizations willing to hire drug court participants/alumni, advocating for new opportunities for drug court participants within the community, and educating the drug court team about available services and resources.

WORK LOCATION: This position is based at the King County Courthouse located at 516 3rd Ave. in Seattle and travels to attend meetings or perform duties at the Maleng Regional Justice Center, 401 4th Ave N. in Kent, and to other areas in King County to attend meetings with employers and service providers.
There may be work associated with this position that may be partially performed remotely . Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual , safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.

Job Duties
The person selected for this position will be assigned a variety of tasks including but not limited to those listed:
Direct Social Services Work: Meet with DDC participants to determine educational, vocational, employment and other needs, and work closely with them to achieve their goals. Assist participants in overcoming barriers to a healthy, productive life by connecting with funding, services and resources including identification, transportation, vocational training, recreational and recovery-oriented activities, health insurance, and financial benefits. Meet with participants at jail discharge to facilitate transportation and other essential services and occasionally, accompany to appointments in the field. Maintain case notes in the electronic database.
Serve as a Member of the Multidisciplinary Drug Court Team: Track individual participant Empowerment Plans and social service referrals within the DDC database. Report as requested to court, treatment agencies, and other service providers regarding participants' progress toward attainment of goals. Develop and distribute promotional materials to DDC participants and team members educating about available resources and upcoming opportunities. Support the DDC's approach to accountability and empowerment, especially as it relates to participant productivity and community involvement.
Presentations and Workshops : Facilitate informational sessions and life skills workshops for DDC participants, including a brief overview of available resources as part of the weekly orientation for new participants. Present regularly to the Drug Diversion Court team regarding the status of available resources.
Essential Client Supply Ordering, Tracking and Distribution: Utilize excellent organizational skills to order, track and distribute essential supplies to program participants, including cell phone minutes, basic hygiene products, emergency food bags and Washington State IDs. Work closely with DDC Program Analyst and any relevant community organizations to provide the supporting documentation required.
Community Involvement and Advocacy: Stay informed regarding resources and community opportunities for program participants related to employment, education, recovery support, and basic needs. Identify gaps and barriers in available community resources and work with DDC staff to develop solutions. Cultivate relationships with community organizations, and local employers, attend community provider and stakeholder meetings as necessary, and provide education regarding DDC and the population it serves. Identify local employers willing to hire drug court participants/alumni and advocate for new opportunities.

- Minimum 1 year of experience providing direct social service support and resource referrals to individuals experiencing substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health issues, homelessness and/or criminal legal involvement.
- Strong communication, presentation, problem-solving, and resourcefulness skills.
- Ability to listen with compassion, build rapport, address sensitive issues in a caring, supportive manner, and motivate participants to set goals, and engage in services.
- Demonstrated experience exercising good judgment in relation to boundaries and ethical issues in providing client services, and willingness to work within an accountability-based therapeutic court program.
- Excellent organizational skills that would enable you to maintain accurate documentation related to ordering, tracking, and distribution of essential client supplies, completion of participant Empowerment Plans, and resource referrals.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative manner as part of a professional team and to develop positive working relationships with community providers.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals of all races, ethnicities, nationalities, cultures, genders, ages, sexual orientations, and abilities.
- Experience with data entry, office software, and email, and the ability to learn new software applications and technologies as required for this position.
- Experience assisting adults in setting and achieving educational, vocational, and employment goals.
- Experiencing assisting adults in accessing resources to meet basic needs (including food, clothing, transportation, identification, healthcare, and financial benefits).
- Strong knowledge of local King County community resources and referral/follow-up processes.
- Knowledge of local peer and recovery support services, meetings, and organizations.
- Training, work experience, or lived experience related to substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders.
- Specialized training, work experience or lived experience within the criminal legal system, especially experience navigating therapeutic court processes.
- Training in motivational interviewing.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish, the second most commonly spoken language amongst King County Drug Court participants.
