The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is seeking two Education & Engagement Supervisors/ Environmental Programs Managing Supervisor who are passionate, collaborative leaders, prepared to manage the delivery of our education and engagement programs for our Environmental and Community Services Section (ECSS). We need proven leaders who will leverage their program management expertise and experience to strategically resolve challenges and effectively support programs that serve our local communities. The successful candidates will collaborate with all business sections of our utility, regional partner agencies, and community organizations.
About the Role:
The Education & Engagement Supervisors/ Environmental Programs Managing Supervisor will supervise education teams within the Environmental and Community Services Section (ECSS) of WTD. These positions will manage education teams located in our North and South regions, supporting daily functions, including management of staffing, planning & development of programs, establishing procedures & safety, and developing performance standards for educational work programs.
The Education & Engagement Supervisors/ Environmental Programs Managing Supervisor works with the Education & Engagement Unit Manager for work across the Division (WTD), Department (DNRP) and throughout King County and represents the Unit's education work with internal work groups, external consultants, and the public.

Remote and Onsite Work Details: Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with onsite reporting on an average of one to two times per week. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at King County South Treatment Plant (1200 Monster Road S.W., Renton, WA 98057), Brightwater Treatment Plant (22505 State Route 9 SE, Woodinville, WA 98072) or one of WTD's other regional treatment plants . This work arrangement promotes work-life-balance and reduces carbon footprint under the department's vision of Green Where We Work .
Remote Work Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
Work Location: Remote/Onsite - King County South Treatment Plant (1200 Monster Road S.W., Renton, WA 98057) or one of the WTD's other regional treatment plants
Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
Union Representation: This position is represented by The Teamsters Local 117.

Job Duties
What You Will Be Doing:
- Site and safety management - maintenance, building updates, custodial, equipment, grounds, etc. with internal operations, asset management and capital staff. This involves direct on-the-ground coordination with operations, maintenance and capital program staff and on-site safety management, communications, and training.
- Education program strategic management - planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of diverse education programs in coordination with education program managers and coordinators. This includes planning and support for program registration, staff scheduling, communications, and logistics necessary for successful education programs.
- Staff supervision - managing WTD education staff, interns, contract and partner staff, which involves regular check-ins, hiring, onboarding, training, and performance appraisals.
- Education program systems management - plan and coordinate program communications, reporting, database, website, SharePoint sites and content for communications in blogs, social media, and general weekly updates.
- Education and engagement work program management - act as lead in key program areas such as careers and workforce development; capital project collaboration and planning; resource Recovery collaboration and planning; Partners in Water program project development and implementation; ADA implementation for sites, programs and communications; Brightwater Exhibit Hall updates and project management; Equity, Racial and Social Justice (ERSJ) working groups and ongoing program integration; and regional partnership development and management.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
- Experience managing teams and overseeing consultants in the delivery of education programs and projects; includes onboarding, training and evaluating.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, environmental stewardship, and public health in the planning and delivery of education and engagement programs.
- Established reputation as a strong leader who develops mutually respectful relationships, achieves consensus among competing interests and fosters a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Experience managing educational buildings/sites and programs at multiple locations while fostering a team environment and maintaining consistency in deliverables and work products.
- Demonstrated experience and skill in working with external partners and the public to initiate and improve programs and processes.
- Established ability to manage logistics needed to run successful education programs including registration and customer relations management (CRM) systems, scheduling platforms, SharePoint sites, websites, etc.
- Manages Complexity - Asks the right questions to accurately analyze situations. Acquires data from multiple and diverse sources when solving problems. Uncovers root causes to difficult problems. Evaluates pros and cons, risks and benefits of different solution options.
