Education Specialist - Immunization Program (.80 FTE)

This is a term limited temporary (TLT)/special duty position that reports to the Immunization Program Healthcare Branch Manager in the Communicable Disease Epidemiology and Immunization Section (CD-Imms). The Education Specialist performs Childhood Vaccine Program (CVP) site visits with enrolled clinics in King County utilizing pre-designed assessment methodologies. The incumbent evaluates clinic data to determine whether current CVP program policies and procedures regarding vaccine ordering, reporting, inventory management, and vaccine dose documentation are effectively carried out by the practice. The Education Specialist also engages in immunization quality improvement with providers (IQIP), designed to increase on-time vaccination of children and adolescents. This position is based at the Chinook Building and also involves frequent travel to health care settings that provide immunization services within King County. A portion of this work may be accomplished from the incumbent’s home office.
This is a term-limited temporary (TLT) position currently funded through June 30, 2023 with possibility of extension.

COMPLIANCE AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT SITE VISITS
- Schedule CVP (Childhood Vaccine Program) compliance site visits and IQIP (Immunization Quality Improvement for Providers) visits.
- Following training, conduct CVP program compliance site visits at clinics throughout King County. Conduct audit-type reviews of clinics enrolled in the CVP Program. Reviews include all immunization-related functions within the practice: vaccine ordering and receiving, storage and handling, administration and documentation. The incumbent will enter findings online through PEAR, an online quality assurance tool developed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The review process includes specific follow-up actions upon the discovery of non-compliant immunization practices.
- Respond to providers seeking guidance on CVP program requirements and protocols as a follow-up to their compliance site visit.
- Facilitate quality improvement with healthcare providers. Generate individual clinic immunization coverage assessment reports using the Washington State Immunization Information System (WA IIS). Present results to clinic staff members. Collaborate with clinic staff to identify action steps aimed at increasing vaccine uptake by improving and enhancing vaccination workflow. Document these assessments in REDCap. Schedule and carry out periodic check-ins to review progress.
- Participate in site visit reviewer training webinars hosted by the Washington State Department of Health.
- Attend and participate in Communicable Disease Epidemiology and Immunization Section (CD-Imms) staff meetings and other departmental meetings.
- Participate in emergency responses for infectious disease outbreaks.
- Assist with Communicable Disease, Immunization and/or Prevention Division special projects and initiatives upon request.

Required qualifications:
- Experience coordinating with healthcare partners: conducting outreach, responding to inquiries, sharing guidance, and/or providing technical assistance.
- Experience reporting and tracking data in online systems.
- Experience working with diverse populations and cultures, and supporting anti-racist principles of equity and social justice
- Ability to provide independent advice and guidance to health care professionals and the public within area of expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out assignments and responsibilities reliably in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner
- Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, and working efficiently.
- Ability to work on projects with complex technical aspects that may change.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate orally and in writing with supervisor, co-workers, healthcare providers, and the general public.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License and the ability to drive a county vehicle to locations in and outside King County.
- Experience conducting clinical audits or quality improvement and assurance activities.
- Experience presenting to groups or individuals in a professional setting.
- Knowledge of vaccine preventable diseases, domestic immunizations programs, and vaccine delivery systems.
- Experience with the storage and handling of vaccines.
- Fluency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint) and REDCap.

Work Location: This position is based at the Chinook Building and also involves frequent travel to health care settings that provide immunization services within King County. A portion of this work may be accomplished from the incumbent’s home office.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.
Work Schedule: Work schedule will be worked out with supervisor within the normal Monday-Friday operating hours of Friday 8am-5pm. This position is subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible.
