Educator Consultant I (Child Care Heath Program)
- Summary
The Educator Consultant I (EC) will train and support childcare providers to meet the health and safety needs of children in licensed child care programs and homes—including those in, but not exclusive to, Somali-speaking communities—throughout Seattle. The EC will work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary Child Care Health Program (CCHP), which helps primarily children birth to 5 have access to health, behavioral health, nutrition, physical activity, and other opportunities to enhance their developmental and learning outcomes while in out-of-home care. The CCHP team has Public Health Nurses, Mental Health Consultants, and a Nutritionist in addition to ECs, all of whom provide highly relationship-based services in childcares in the community.
With guidance and support from CCHP colleagues, the EC will work cooperatively with and independently from the team to assist early learning programs with enhancing the care they provide to their children and families. The work involves the EC interacting directly with the children, families, and providers at childcares to help them learn about and engage in healthy eating, physical activity, safe sleep practices, oral hygiene, and more. In addition, the EC will document care and participate in the team's formulation of the most helpful supports and services for children and their providers. And the EC also will participate in collaborations with community partners, including government and community-based organizations, to help develop systems and structures that better attend to the health, safety, and development needs of children, families, and providers.
Importantly, the CCHP uses equity, trauma-informed, and anti-racist lenses to engage in its care in the community. We are seeking an EC team member who wants to collaborate on upending the status quo of individual and systemic bias and disproportional access to resources for healthy human development while seeking justice for young children and the adults who care for them.
Who May Apply: While the CCHP is seeking a Somali-speaking EC, this advertisement is currently open to all qualified candidates.
