- Summary
King County's Radio Communication Services team is in search of 2 Electronic Communications Technician positions. In this position, you will primarily work to program, install, and troubleshoot mobile and portable two way radios, mobile data devices, and fixed site equipment. You will also work with other team members to assist in the installation and maintenance of land mobile radio equipment and related auxiliary equipment. Our ideal candidates will have strong technical skills, thrive in a collaborative environment, and have a passion in delivering excellent customer service. This positions are fully benefited full time position 40 hours a week.

Work Schedule
The normal work week for this position is Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm; this position is eligible for overtime pay.

- Install and remove all types of 2-way mobile radio and electronic communications equipment, radio site equipment, and electronic security systems. Perform preventative maintenance to the "box" level.
- Serve as the initial point of contact to customers, provide troubleshooting of mobile and fixed radio equipment installations; identify failures to the either radio equipment itself or the auxiliary equipment. May provide mechanical or assembly level board swaps as appropriate.
- Assist in scheduling installation and removal of mobile and fixed radio equipment.
- Provide needed equipment documentation including the install/removal history and maintaining records regarding work orders, installation procedures, and practices.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of installation and basic 2-way mobile radio maintenance practices
- Knowledge of basic electronics, communications equipment and auxiliary equipment
- Capable of using basic electronic test equipment (DVM, watt-meter, service monitor) to determine failure location
- Excellent customer service skills, including maintaining focus on the customer
- Proficient in using computers and computer software to perform system diagnostics, interpret results, program equipment, and maintain equipment and system databases
- Able to work independently and in a team environment
- Demonstrated skills in creating, cultivating, and collaborating with management, peers, cross functionally, and customers
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; including the ability to communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience
- Skill in handling multiple competing priorities and adapting to changes in workload; including writing and editing technical documentation and staying current with assigned work
- Positive attitude towards peers and leadership, ability to learn from mistakes, and proactively seeks feedback
- Ability to focus on the details and approach problems logically and rationally
- Demonstrated ownership of tasks to resolve challenging customer issues, escalating when necessary
- Effective problem-solving skills including decision making, time management & immediate prioritization of tasks as assigned
- Ability to lift 25+ lbs. and work in tight spaces.
- Supplemental Information
Additional Job Requirements
- Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License at the time of hire; you will be required to drive a county vehicle on a regular basis
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam
- Successful completion and ability to maintain an acceptable background clearance level to include fingerprinting
- 2+ years of experience installing and maintaining land mobile radio equipment and related auxiliary systems
- Successful completion of an AA degree, vocational training program in electronics, and/or equivalent military electronics training involving communications equipment, analog and digital circuitry, and test equipment usage
- FCC GROL License (General Radio Operators License)
- Experience in the use of Office 365 products
- Prior experience in public sector and/or a desire to work in public service
