King County's Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) is an industry-leading clean water agency serving King County, Washington including the City of Seattle. The Resource Recovery Section of WTD is tasked with ensuring safe, environmentally friendly products produced from an urban renewable resource stream are beneficially used. Products include renewable energy, Loop® biosolids soil amendment and recycled water. Energy efficiency is also viewed as a valuable product of WTD's work. Resource Recovery is seeking an Energy Engineer to fill an integral role in its Energy Program. This position will focus on tracking, modeling and projecting the division's energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. The energy program is responsible for identifying and coordinating energy efficiency efforts for both Capital improvements and Operational enhancements of the wastewater treatment stream. Guiding the program's energy efforts are the King County Strategic Climate Action Plan and WTD's Energy Plan, both focused on improving energy efficient design and operation, as well as maximizing the renewable resources used or captured in the process. This position reports to the Office of Sustainability and Innovation Supervisor.

Core Work Duties:
- Track, model, and project the division’s energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, identifying outlying facilities and investigating anomalies.
- Track division progress toward meeting King County Strategic Climate Action Plan energy-related commitments and performance targets.
- Lead or support treatment plant energy team, along with developing business cases for and coordinating implementation of efficiency improvements.
- Participate on capital project teams as an energy subject matter expert to identify, evaluate, and incorporate energy efficiency and renewable power opportunities into project alternatives analyses and designs.
- Perform system and facility energy audits to identify and develop innovative energy-related pilot and demonstration projects and other efficiency improvements, sometimes involving cross-agency work.
- Support development of technical standards and design guidelines for energy efficiency and renewable energy.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field and four years of energy engineering work. Possession of an EIT certification is required.
- Excel-based data analysis skills and ability to illustrate analysis in effective graphical format
- Success working independently or as a productive and engaged member of a project team
- Ability to experiment to find creative solutions; adaptable to change and able to remain open to new ideas and ways of doing things; customer service oriented
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively interpret technical information for non-technical audiences simply, clearly, and concisely
- Skills in comprehending, analyzing, and interpreting technical information for targeted audiences
- A valid State of Washington driver’s license will be required for travel to field locations where no public transportation services are available.
The most viable candidates will have both communications skills and experience with tracking effort progress, energy savings analysis, measurement and verification as it relates to energy and climate metrics. they will also have experience with mechanical and electrical equipment and instrumentation in an industrial or wastewater treatment environment.- Experience working in industrial facilities, energy, and technical data analysis

Telecommuting and King Street Center
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly by telecommuting, with occasional onsite work and meetings, as influenced by business needs. Employee will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.

Work Location: Primarily teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104. There will be an expectation to travel to various worksites throughout King and South Snohomish County as needed for your work
Work Schedule: This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. Monday through Friday.
