You will have a chance to work on challenging engineering projects in locations spanning from the steep rivers of the cascade mountains to the tidally influenced lowlands and with a diverse and technically challenging body of work.
Our work is important, protecting built infrastructure and restoring natural processes to sustain aquatic ecosystems. Job Duties
The work associated with this position will be performed by teleworking with some onsite work and meetings. The frequency of onsite work will be informed by business needs. Employees will have access to shared workspaces as needed at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer. King County is doing its part to reduce our carbon footprint.
King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team.
Work Location: Predominately teleworking and work as needed at King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104.
Work Schedule: This full-time position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. This position is based on a 40-hour work week. The typical work schedule is 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday- Friday. Attendance at evening meetings and weekend events may be required from time to time including for staffing of the Flood Warning Center or Flood Patrol during Flood emergencies.

Job Duties
- Provide engineering assistance to multidisciplinary project teams by conducting engineering and technical analysis of open channel hydraulics, floodplain and river conditions, river hazards and project design.
- Assist with preparation of design documents including engineering plans, specifications, estimates (costs, quantities, and schedules), permits and scopes of work.
- Support project management activities including development and maintenance of scopes of work, schedules, budgets, and contract requirements during design, procurement and implementation of capital projects.
- Assist with field investigations and assessments of flood protection facilities, including gathering engineering data necessary for repair or levees and revetments, field survey, and spatial data collection.
- Participate in flood warning and emergency response programs and activities, including investigating known problem-sites, evaluating debris jams, documenting flood damages, and developing recommendations for flood response actions.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources, or closely related field, and/or equivalent combination of education and project work that provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties described in this job announcement.
- Demonstrated experience and desire to work collaboratively with a diverse, multidisciplinary technical team from different professional backgrounds and participate with perseverance, patience, and humor on high-paced projects with overlapping deadlines.
- Ability to exercise proper tact and judgment in the field and in the virtual office environment, to work safely and effectively outdoors under adverse weather conditions year-round.
- Demonstrated ability to write and communicate clearly and effectively on technical issues with people of varying technical backgrounds and understanding.
- Some experience and skills conducting site reconnaissance, collecting land and in-water survey data, taking field notes, and/or transforming field data using survey calculations, including the knowledge and use of GPS field equipment, data dictionaries and software.
- Some experience and proficiency with data file management and drafting techniques using manual methods or software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D or ArcGIS.
- Certification as an Engineer-In-Training.
- Design and/or construction management experience in the disciplines of open channel hydraulics, river mechanics, and/or floodplain management.
- Knowledge, understanding and experience with application of hydrologic and open channel hydraulic principles and geomorphic processes
- Conducting field investigations, such as evaluating river conditions and assessing flood hazard problems and needs in a river-scale setting.
- Developing, applying, and using contemporary hydrologic and hydraulic computer modeling applications, including HEC-RAS.
