This is a great opportunity for an individual who enjoys working in the field. The work programs Asset Management Unit supports are varied and allow for lots of cross training. The position has an assigned Take Home Vehicle. The work provides direct interaction with King County citizens and allows one to make a positive impact on our environment.
Major Work Projects:
The inspection programs help King County maintain a balance between our developed environment and beautiful natural environment. Our drainage support program allows us to help advise and educate our King County citizens about the importance of our natural resources.
Who is Eligible: This position is open to all qualified applicants.
Telecommuting Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly by teleworking, complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations . King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment.
Work Location: Primarily teleworking and the King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson Street, Seattle, WA 98104
Work Schedule: This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.

Job Duties
- Assess drainage facilities for maintenance needs.
- Field investigations of drainage and water quality inquiries and complaints as to origin effect, and downstream impact.
- Provide technical support to field maintenance crews, property owners, and other Division staff.
- Perform asset management data collection in stormwater detention, water quality treatment, and flood control facilities.
- Perform other engineering duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Bachelor's degree in the geosciences, civil engineering, or a related field that includes basic mathematical and statistical methods; or equivalent experience on a one-to-one year equivalency.
- Possess general knowledge of stormwater detention and water quality treatment facilities per the guidelines of King County Surface Water Design Manual (SWDM), Washington State Department of Ecology Stormwater Management Manual for Western Washington (DOE Manual), and King County Roads Standards.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting design plans, as-builts, plat drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Ability to create maps from field data; read and interpret maps, construction plans/profiles/details, and aerial photos for land use, land cover, topographic features, and drainage components.
- Ability to independently perform field work, which includes accurately taking and recording field measurements, applying knowledge of surface water and water quality control, inspect and record maintenance needs with drainage facilities and/or field conditions.
- Ability to take initiative within the scope of the position; effectively plan, prioritize and problem solve using analytical skills.
- Ability to work productively in multi-disciplinary project teams, and to work effectively and cooperatively across all level of stakeholders.
- Understanding of King County Code 9.08
- Experience with GIS and GPS tools as used for field mapping of assets.
- Understanding of Flow Control Best Management Practices.
- Understanding of Asset Management Principles and their application to Stormwater Facilities.
- Experience with ARC/GIS Online platform and applications.
