You will be involved with the following important work:
Critical role in the data entry of all water, soil, and air samples collected by the environmental scientist and analyzed by the King County Environmental Lab.
Critical role in the assistance with the site engineering of all the closed landfills.
Critical role in the inspection of the closed landfills for asset condition assessment.
What to Expect as a Successful Employee
There are two positions career service and Special Duty or Term-limited Temporary. The Term-limited Temporary is expected to end in twelve (12) months with the possibility of extension. This position is available to King County career service employees as a special duty assignment. Experience in this temporary position has the potential to increase knowledge and skills that could be widely applicable to future opportunities within King County government and beyond. Incumbents will work alongside other environmental scientists & compliance specialists, engineers, project managers, safety professionals and operations personnel. Depending on need and interest, the successful candidate could learn more about a variety of programs in SWD such as environmental compliance, asset management, landfill engineering, facilities maintenance, and building information management, to name a few.
What You'll Be Doing:
Work Schedule: This position works a 40 hour work week, Monday through Friday with some evening and weekend work as required. A typical workday runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position is overtime eligible.
Union Membership: Positions in this classification are represented by PROTEC 17.

- In 3 months, will be fully trained in the process of entering data into our environmental database
- In 6 months, work independently on data entry and validation
- In 12 months, reviewing environmental investigation deliverable, performing site inspections, and assisting with the prioritization of site maintenance projects

What You'll Be Doing:
- Data entry, validation, and exceedance reporting
- Assistance with hydrogeologic evaluations
- Assistance with annual and quarterly reporting
- Site inspections
- Review of environmental investigation deliver
- Experience using EarthSoft Equis software for data entry
- Knowledge in how to perform quality review of analytical laboratory operating procedures and methodologies relevant to aquatic chemistry.
- Ability to analyze or review various technical landfill related engineering elements, including environmental controls and monitoring systems independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively to a diverse group of professionals, coworkers, and public.
- Intermediate knowledge and experience using Microsoft (MS) Excel, and MS-Word.
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary collaborative team settings and to actively engage in the development of project designs.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively across different work groups and with senior level managers, supervisors, technical leads and operations staff.
- Ability to work effectively in a rapidly evolving work environment that requires multi-tasking, planning, and organizing work daily, responding to changing priorities and tight deadlines, and grasping and responding to complex issues quickly.
- Knowledge of the databases used for storing technical information such as landfill gas, groundwater, surface water, leachate or other environmental systems performance data.
- Expert knowledge in the use of Equis to enter data and create data reports
- Experience providing consultant and contractor invoice approval in PRISM database
- The selected person will need a valid Washington State Driver's License or the ability to travel throughout the County in a timely manner.
