This is a great opportunity for an individual that enjoys working with smart, talented, and diverse team members to protect the environmental health of the closed landfills and the surrounding communities. This position has a direct impact on the division's ability to monitor air and water quality and comply with Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations.
We are hiring for two Term Limited Temporary (TLT) positions with a term of up to five years. In addition, we will use this recruitment to create a list of candidates who may be considered for similar positions in the near future.

Major Projects/Tasks:
The successful candidate will play a critical role in the review of engineering reports and will provide technical support to environmental investigations of the closed landfills and in the contract management of consulting and construction services and will assist with the site engineering of all the closed landfills.
The Closed Landfill Environmental Engineering (CLEE) unit is a small, collaborative, and dedicated team motivated by our goals to improve the environmental health of our closed landfills to protect the health and safety of our neighbors. We are scientists, engineers, and geologists with experiences that are unique and instrumental in the successful maintenance and monitoring of our closed landfills.
What You Will De Doing:
Work Location: Primarily teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104.
Work Schedule: This position generally works a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday. This full-time career service position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is eligible for overtime.

What You Will De Doing:
- Provide project management assistance to the Engineer III for the closed landfill capital improvement program projects.
- Provide technical support for the review of scientific and analytical reports for technical, regulatory, and non-technical audiences to summarize and convey project findings, and meet regulatory compliance requirements.
- Assist senior team members to negotiate facility regulatory permit conditions.
- Determine consistency of remedial engineering plans and products with all appropriate industry standards, as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations, including Solid Waste Division policies and procedures.
- Review contract plans and provisions; oversee the work of contractors daily and monitor work progress; take corrective action for non-compliance with contract requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, or a closely related field like earth and space sciences.
- Knowledge of project management, contract administration, budgeting, and scheduling techniques and principles
- Ability to work in the field collaboratively with Operations personnel
- Ability to determine whether human health and the environment are being impacted by solid waste facility operations using predictive and prescriptive statistical analysis and operational performance evaluation tools.
- Applicable skills using Microsoft (MS) Project to develop schedules for public works projects; MS Excel, MS-Word, MS Access, and basic working knowledge using MS PowerPoint.
- Ability to work effectively in a rapidly evolving work environment that requires multi-tasking, planning, and organizing work daily, responding to changing priorities and tight deadlines, and grasping and responding to complex issues quickly.
- Ability to take initiative and function independently on assigned projects, while keeping team members, senior-level team members, and stakeholders apprised of key issues and developments.
- Demonstrated ability to ensure work complies with applicable regulations, including reviewing and interpreting regulations, and negotiating permit and project requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in team settings and across department lines and with senior-level managers, supervisors, technical leads, and operations staff.
- Demonstrated experience in effective communications management with diverse groups of professionals, coworkers, and the general public.
- Demonstrated small projects construction management experience
- Documented experience in negotiating, applying, and obtaining various local, state, and federal permits required for the implementation of public works and solid waste-related projects.
- Work experience associated with the design, construction, and operation of waste disposal facilities, waste management facilities, equipment maintenance, and administrative facilities or equivalent facilities.
