The advertised positions are all within the Water & Land Resources Division (WLRD) in the following three work units:
Who Are We? The Water & Land Resources Division (WLRD) delivers a diverse portfolio of environmental services, including stormwater management, salmon recovery, flood risk management, noxious weed removal and supporting agriculture and forestry. All of these functions are supported by a top-notch science section and a property acquisition unit. This portfolio puts the WLRD at the center of key initiatives launched by the county Executive, including Clean Water Healthy Habitat, the Land Conservation Initiative and the Fish Passage Restoration Program. The work we do is diverse, stimulating and at the forefront of addressing today's environmental challenges.
Who is Eligible: All six positions are open to the public, but first consideration for the career service positions will be given to all current King County PROTEC Local 17A bargaining unit employees eligible for a lateral transfer (transferring within the Engineer II classification and having passed probation). The Term Limited Temporary positions are expected to last three (3) years.

Telecommuting Requirement
The work associated with these positions will be performed predominantly by teleworking, complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations . King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment.
Work Location: Predominately teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104.
Work Schedule: These positions are covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and are overtime eligible. These full-time positions work a 40-hour work week.

- Ecological Restoration and Engineering Services (ERES) Unit (3 Career Service positions) - These positions will work on all aspects of riverine, wetland and marine habitat restoration and mitigation projects, from site assessment and design through construction and post-construction, monitoring and maintenance.
- Fish Passage Restoration Program (1 Career Service position) - This position will work on restoring fish passage at culverts, weirs, and other structures that currently impede fish passage, serving as a key member on a team focused solely on-site assessment, design, construction, and monitoring of projects that will get the most salmon to the best habitat as quickly as possible.
- Capital Services Unit (CSU) (2 Term Limited Temporary positions) - Engineers in CSU work on emerging flooding and water quality issues, as well as major repairs or retrofits of existing stormwater facilities. Project teams work on all elements of their projects, from initial site assessment and feasibility to construction and post-construction monitoring.

Job Duties
- Prepare project design plan sets for small and large projects including multiple plan views, profiles, typical sections, complex details and notes.
- Write engineering documents, including but not limited to design reports, technical information reports, and stormwater pollution prevention plans.
- Prepare bid documents needed for construction using Washington State Department of Transportation Standard Specifications or Construction Specifications Institute format.
- Provide construction oversight and perform inspections for various CIP projects during implementation.
- Perform technical studies and engineering analysis including hydraulic modeling.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related field OR substituting one year of documented progressively responsible, related civil engineering experience for each academic year of the required education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Engineer in Training Certification (EIT) or ability to obtain within one-year of hire date.
- At least one year of professional work experience in analyzing, modeling, and designing of surface water projects for stormwater, flood control, fish passage or habitat restoration projects.
- At least one year of experience using AutoDesk Civil 3D to generate grading surfaces.
- Experience in preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Licensed Washington State professional civil engineer (P.E.).
- Knowledge and experience in the fields of geological/geotechnical engineering and geomorphology.
- Knowledge and experience using ArcGIS or ArcPro.
- Collaborates: Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
- Communicates Effectively: Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
- Tech Savvy: Anticipating and adopting innovations in business.

- Valid Washington State driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to starting work if selected for these positions.
