Equipment Operator Lead Special Duty Assignment

The Parks Operations Section is filling a Special Duty opportunity for an Equipment Operator Lead as a temporary backfill for the Heavy Equipment Crew. The Equipment Operator Lead position oversees the day-to-day operations on Parks’ Heavy Equipment Crew. Duties include coordinating with the Supervisor III on work plans and priorities, organizing equipment and personnel, providing onsite leadership and feedback and ensuring deadlines are met.
Duration: The special duty opportunity is expected to last 2-3 months.
Who is Eligible: King County Parks Division Career Service Equipment Operators only.
Work Location: This position reports to the Parks Greenhouse.
Work Schedule: This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.- Job Duties
In addition to the duties listed below, incumbents in this classification may be required to perform all or some of the duties contained in the Equipment Operator classification:
- Assist in workload planning, prioritizing and assigning work schedules.
- Create estimates, order materials and manage project budgets.
- Coordinate the work of and provide assistance to Equipment Operators.
- Assign work, and control and monitor workflow.
- Respond to questions and advise crewmembers as requested; instruct crewmembers on work assignments.
- Provide feedback to higher-level staff on employee and teamwork performance as well as any behavioral and attendance issues.
- Advise crewmembers when their work is deficient or is in violation of established policy or procedures.
- Maintain a variety or records including work performed, time spent, material used, operating logs, and related information.
- Identify staffing needs, coordinate special projects.

- Planning and scheduling projects and providing daily dispatch to crew.
- Identify and assign daily tasks; conduct daily dispatch.
- Provide information to higher, lower and peer levels; coordinate work activities and report personnel issues.
- Provide customer service, respond to complaints / questions, respond to emergency situations, and manage special events
- Identify work projects, submit Work Requests using Lucity, and monitor progress of work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively with supervisors and staff, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment by building rapport and promoting cooperation among team members.
- Ability to provide excellent service to all customers, using discretion, patience, and professionalism.
- Demonstrated skill in troubleshooting, analyzing, and problem solving.
