King County Fleet Services is looking for a dedicated Preventative Maintenance Technician to join our team! The Preventative Maintenance Technician will be responsible for providing safe and efficient service for a wide variety of vehicles, heavy equipment, and machinery. This position is also responsible for maintaining records and performing preventive maintenance inspections and procedures. This position will work from a Field Lube Service Truck or at our Renton Maintenance Facility.
ABOUT FLEET SERVICES DIVISION
The Fleet Services Division manages King County's portfolio of vehicles and equipment. The team performs acquisition, maintenance, repair, replacement, and disposal of approximately 3,000 fleet assets for the County's services associated with the Sheriff's Office, Public Health, Roads, Parks, Wastewater, Water and Land Resources, and other agencies. The division manages two maintenance shops which include robust storerooms of automotive parts, materials, and construction supplies as well as several technicians working in the field to support remote customer sites.
In addition, the Fleet Division is responsible for the disposition of the county's personal property assets, which includes a surplus warehouse in Georgetown. Disposal methods can include re-use within the county, donation to verified and approved non-profits, and sales through online portals or sealed/negotiated bids.

WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule for this position is generally 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standard Act and is overtime eligible. Alternative schedules may be required along with mandatory overtime. This position is Mission Critical.

Job Duties
KEY DELIVERALBE AND EXPECTATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate skill and ability to:
- Perform lubrication duties on machinery, including oil servicing, oil sampling, greasing, oil change, filter changes and oil flow rate adjustment.
- Select appropriate lubricants for machinery.
- Maintain multiple oil supply rooms and collection sites.
- Lubricate and winterize vehicles and equipment.
- Develop and document procedures for lubrication functions.
- Research and document difference in machinery lubrication and filtration systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections on vehicles.
- Respond to emergencies (i.e. ice, snow, flooding) for vehicles on road.
- Process oil samples for various lubrication and hydraulic systems for analysis, track and file.
- Change, rotate, repair and balance tires on County vehicles and off-road equipment, excluding busses.
- Perform road calls for tire servicing and equipment lube services.
- Perform quality inspections on incoming tire stock.
- Make recommendations for improvements and modifications to work processes.
- Open and close work orders, maintain records and logs on a computer as required.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
THE MOST COMPETIVIE CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
- Knowledge of general lubrication requirements.
- Experience providing services on a variety of vehicles, including light duty and heavy-duty vehicles.
- Experience providing lube services on heavy construction equipment.
- Knowledge of and skill in tire repair process and regulations.
- Knowledge of tire safety characteristics.
- Knowledge in the use of basic hand and air tools.
- Skill in distinguishing different types of oils and lubricants.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to have predictable and reliable attendance.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Skill in driving different types of oversized vehicles.
Supplemental Information
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
- Valid Washington State Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License with a Class B, Air Brake and Hazmat endorsement within 6 months of employment.
- Employment will be contingent of the success of a pre-employment physical exam.
- A CDL Class B with Air Brake and Hazmat endorsement is highly desirable.
