The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) is seeking an Equity & Social Justice (ESJ) Coordinator (Project/Program Manager I).
ABOUT THE POSITION: The ESJ Coordinator will work with the department's Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (EIB) Manager to identify and implement ESJ initiatives and ensure progress towards the development and implementation of ESJ efforts to drive organizational change. This is an exciting opportunity to join the King County Department of Adult & Juvenile Detention to facilitate the development of a pro-equity and anti-racist organization through systemic change.
SPECIAL DUTY & TERM LIMITED TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENTS: This temporary position is scheduled to last 24 months; however, the exact duration may end earlier or be extended based on operational needs, the project and funding. Rate of pay will be in accordance with applicable bargaining agreements and/or Career Service Guidelines. Special Duty Assignments do not confer any privilege, right of appeal, or right of position, transfer, demotion, promotion or reinstatement, and can be revoked at any time with or without cause.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position will work a 40-hour work week and is overtime eligible (provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act). Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
WORK LOCATION: 516 Third Avenue, Room E-245, Seattle, WA 98104.
The work associated with the position is currently being performed remotely and is anticipated to remain remote with some in-office hybrid schedule as deemed necessary by DAJD/HR Management and/or the EIB Manager.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The person selected for this position may be required to complete a thorough background investigation process, including fingerprinting, criminal history check, and reference checks

- Collect ESJ related performance metrics that are understandable, meaningful and lead to accountability and desired outcomes. Continuously track data to ensure anti-bias efforts are applied throughout the department and remain within acceptable standards.
- Support equity engagement teams to be innovative and adaptive in providing culturally responsive, inclusive, and equitable programs and/or services for their divisions
- Assist with the communication of new/updated programs, policies, and processes to department leadership and employees.
- Work with the EIB Manager and the DAJD Training Unit to develop ESJ training and workshop materials.
- Review potential changes to ESJ efforts with the department EIB Manager and implement as approved.
- Work with EIB Manager to ensure best practices are applied to various processes throughout the department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated willingness to continuously learn about racial equity and have more than a basic knowledge of equitable practices, processes, and approaches;
- Proficient in crafting concise, well-written emails and reports using plain language
- Ability to effectively engage in and sustain relationships with diverse people and cultures
- Demonstrated proficiency with O365 Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or SharePoint)
- Enjoy writing and is skilled in narrative, descriptive, persuasive, and/or reflective writing using plain language.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills including the ability to organize, prioritize, plan, schedule and follow up on tasks; elevate issues or obtain additional resources when necessary
- Demonstrated knowledge of project management techniques and principles
- The ability to develop and deliver well-designed slide decks using presentation software
- Ability to work under pressure and be flexible enough to adjust quickly to changing priorities
- Community organizing experience, group facilitation skills, and/or a demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice.
- Be proficient in basic quantitative analysis skills (pivot tables, data visualization, etc.) using Excel
