Family Court Technician - Two Openings
- Summary
The responsibilities of this classification include providing operational support to judicial officers, clients and lawyers including scheduling court dates, determining case priority and ensuring case readiness. Incumbents manage pending cases on the Commissioners' case loads; respond to inquiries and issues referred to the Commissioners; and assign confirmed motions to specific courtrooms and Commissioners. Incumbents facilitate communication between the court and various participants in family law matters including dissolution, separation, custody and parenting plans.
WHO MAY APPLY: These positions are open to all qualified candidates.
WORK LOCATION: One position is primarily located at the King County Courthouse in Seattle. The other position is a "floater" who will work in both the King County Courthouse in Seattle and the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. The incumbents may be required to work at other Superior Court locations.
WORK SCHEDULE AND TERMS: This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (hourly), and is overtime eligible. The workweek is normally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 PM. Variations from these hours may occur.

- Job Duties
The following duties are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position at the task level:
Facilitate the flow of courtroom proceedings; oversee courtroom logistics during trials and hearings. Perform tasks in court, including writing court orders based on judicial officers' determinations and monitoring case readiness. Notify all parties of case status.
Perform operational support activities including scheduling of court dates and determining priority order of cases with respect to local court rules/legal time frames. Perform related calendaring, motion tracking and pre-trial conference functions.
Coordinate security response to courtrooms and court-related areas when required.
Assess trial readiness status of pending cases. Assign confirmed motions to specific courtrooms and commissioners. Coordinate with courts regarding reassignment of cases.
Facilitate communication between judges, commissioners, court staff, and the public. Respond to various inquiries regarding specific court rules, policies and procedures.
Record all pertinent information from court orders onto court calendars to facilitate future court hearings; transmit documents and synchronize notices.
Handle sensitive, confidential situations; respond to inquiries and resolve issues.
Generate reports from databases. Processes mail.
May train new employees in courtroom and hearing procedures, confirmation procedures and computer applications.
Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED); and three years experience in court procedures and processes; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Special requirements: Finalists must have successfully passed a criminal background check and reference check. Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license or be able to travel throughout the County by alternate means.
